On Tuesday, March 5th around 12:50 am, I lost the love of my life in my arms on the way to the emergency vet.

The love I have for him and the love he had for me was like none other. He’s my #1, my soulmate, the love of my life. From the moment his mother gave birth to him, being diagnosed with a collapsed trachea, heart murmur, heart disease, and dementia, to the moment he passed, he gave me the best 16 years of my life.

I said it then. I would rather not be able to travel since he’d somehow get sick before my trips, I’d rather lose sleep taking care of Kuku when he’d have his cough episodes, be stressed and exhausted, the health scares, the countless vet visits, and that still stands today. I’d give anything in the world to be able to spend a little bit more time with him and take care of him.

I miss watching you through the dog cam wherever I was, I miss coming home to you barking, kicking up your hind legs, bucking, I miss watching you eat your food with a piece left over on your nose for “dessert”, I miss going to sleep with you tucked under my armpits, I miss waking up to you sleeping on my head/face, I miss smothering the shit out of you, bothering you, kissing you and biting your butt, I miss your stank breath and finding teeth that fell out, I miss your snoring like you worked an 18 hour shift and your farts that I would blame Sam for, I miss you being a danka, and I miss your love. But most of all, I miss you. Losing you the same month I lost my brother makes it so much harder.

Your sweet, naive, innocence, and unconditional love changed me as a person and I will never forget you. I’m grateful that was I was the last thing you saw and will remember forever. As much as it hurts my heart, I know that you are no longer in pain.
