Today is the day- “Decades” is available on all streaming platforms, Bandcamp, and you can put my little emo songs in your IG story or make a video of your dog dancing to “Put A Cork In It”!

This release marks 25 years since my first solo album- somehow it feels like an eternity since then, yet there is the same 18 year old behind my eyes staring back in the mirror. I became a “solo” project by accident, as my band had quit when they found out that I had left the church. Writing songs helped me through that time period, and eventually I reformed the band through many lineups and have made music with my best friends. But there is a feeling to knowing you can do it alone- and even though my focus these days tends to be working in other bands, I have always been writing and keeping songs back that were meant for intentional listening. If you’re a lyrics person, this one is for you. All lyrics are available on my Bandcamp page, and I hope they give you a glimpse into the worlds I have enclosed on this record.

Big shoutout to the crew that made this possible - no album is born alone, and I had a great group of friends help me. Recorded and mixed by @stuartmarkham_ , and mastered by @billpalmer73

The album cover may be one of my favorite elements of the whole thing- it’s a 17 x 6 film photograph snapped by the legend @johnmblackwell , and was really brought together with the top shelf album design touch of @jjstapes

I could wax poetic about the meaning buried in the lyrics, or the weird 100 year old guitar that I played half the album on, or the feeling of putting out new music amongst chaotic times, personal struggles, or even just this particular moment in humanity’s history. But ultimately, this record is for you. I want it comfort you in the ways you need, and heal your heart in the quiet of a car ride home late at night. I give you this album as a friend, as a watcher, as a lifelong musician finally taking a moment to look back and tell you what I have seen.

Thank you for listening. Please put it on infinite repeat, add it to your sad playlist, share it with your folky Aunt, or just listen however you like to. It means the world to me! taken in Santa Rosa, California by @therealjohncourage

I’m certainly going to over post about last night- but that was seriously a dream. Thank you to @emmylouharrisofficial and her incredible band for letting a local kid open up the night. Big shout out to @lutherburbankcenter for making sure to support local artists!! It means a lot, and it was a beautiful way to launch my new album “Decades”

Couldn’t have done last night without @schlee_official slinging merch and shooting some BTS clips. Thank you to @sloanirving for helping out with merch, and I can’t wait to share pics that @thevisionsofjohanna snapped of the evening.

Absolutely amazed, inspired, and grateful.

Keep on! taken in Luther Burbank Center for the Arts by @therealjohncourage

What a trip! Fall Tour ‘26 is complete and it was a great adventure indeed. I got to rock my trusty 1969 Precision Bass with a crew of absolute badasses, and it was a true treat to play @rattlesnakecharm songs every night. It was a joy to rock the groove with @goforjamie and a treat to hear @dayrowshay play his parts from the albums all those years ago. Etienne’s “Wurlitzer” blew a lot of minds, including mine. This tour took us from Georgia to Vermont, and it was extra special seeing Sean’s die hard fans excited to see him out East after a few years. I’ll never take it for granted that we get to be onstage playing someone’s favorite song of all time- or that this music has inhabited so many special moments in people’s lives. As the world gets more strange, and the economy of touring gets more and more difficult- one thing remains true:

Live music is magic. The people, the spaces, the moments we make musically all inhabit the ethereal, and I’ll forever be grateful to go out and experience these things.

I even got to wrap up the trip with a quick visit to Florida to see @schlee_official for our niece’s wedding! Truly a magical trip indeed ✨💙✨

I’ve got two solo shows this weekend in Sonoma Co, and then I’m out with Matt Pond PA in a couple weeks- see you back out there!! by @therealjohncourage

They say if you stay married long enough you end up looking like each other 💙 9 years ago today we got married in the redwoods in front our family and a couple friends, followed by a giant party in our back yard that night.

I love you @schlee_official thanks for always being sweet that I’m on tour for our anniversary

🥺💙🌹

I see you in the shadows Big Man
Too big to tuck away
You keep your smile shining brightly
But you don’t really feel that way
Should I tell ‘em what you said?
Oh I already have
It doesn’t matter they still love you
But the blood is on your hands

Earlier this year we went to a semi-secret studio to make @rattlesnakecharm ‘s 10th studio album. I started playing music with Sean Hayes almost ten years ago, and this is the second album I’ve been able to play on. One of my favorite roles as a musician is as a studio guitarist, with a blank canvas and a wide open palette of colors and textures. It was an initial run with my ‘65 Firebird, and of course my trusty ‘66 Strat was on the vast majority of the session - and an old Supro Belmont also made an appearance. I had the legend Karl Derfler mic up my Peavey Audition 20, and you can hear it all over the new record. Also some clutch appearances by the Mayfair branded projector amp- 1w of glorious crunch. Slightly rough around the edges, all captured in beautiful fidelity- a perfect metaphor for a crew of lifelong musicians who have yet to inherit the rock n roll fortune we have been teased with, but come well equipped with chops sharp enough to cut paper.

We did the basic tracking in a few days with @goforjamie and @jasonpaca - and then Sean added beautiful vocal layers in his home studio and @lemmeadams and @cannonball_outtakey came and put the textured frosting on it that really made the whole thing come to life. @nelsonnotneeson was a guiding force through the process, and helped in infinite ways behind the scenes-

The main part of my pitch is that today, this new album “Bright on Bright” enters the world. I’m proud to be a part of this record, and I truly think it is some of the best Sean Hayes music we have ever made. I encourage you to listen where ever you do, and records will soon be available! We leave for an East Coast tour this week, but we will be celebrating on November 14th at @theindependentsf - I hope to see you there!
