Mara Beboos 💋 pt. 3 of Persian songs you need to know.

This is one of the most famous Persian songs we have. Everyone’s heard it sung at home at least once I think, and in my house it was my mom. She would always sing this one 🥰

It means “kiss me.” Music by Majid Vafadar, lyrics by Heydar Raqabi, from his 1950s poetry collection “Sky of Tears” (آسمان اشک). First sung by Parvaneh in a 1956 film, made popular by Hassan Golnaraghi in 1957.

Send this to someone who grew up with this song 💌

Jane Maryam 🌹 pt. 1 of Persian songs you need to know.

My dad would sing this song to wake me up in the morning. I remember singing it with my cousins waking up in Iran.

Until this week, I had never heard the original by Mohammad Nouri with actual accompaniment. It was only ever sung to me acapella, like a nursery rhyme.

I finally listened to the original and it’s more beautiful than I ever knew. The way the chords land changes everything. ♥️

Have you heard this song before?

Me and Pappa used to sing this together every day in the car on our way to school. It’s one of my most cherished memories.

This is the national anthem we grew up with.

It’s such a beautiful song and I can barely get through it without crying because it represents so much.
I hope I did it justice 🤍

I wanted to share something personal and exciting with you.

As many of you know, I started my journey at 12 in the girl group PLAY, and went on to releasing my solo projects as Janet Leon. Growing up in the music industry is suuuuper weird. Not sure I will ever be able to fully express it with words. You’re a little kid, you think everyone is your friend and know what’s best for you. Then you grow up and realize……

After being told what to do and how to be for a bunch of years, I simply didn’t want it anymore. I’m incredibly grateful for my journey and everything I’ve been able to do. Through all of that, I finally feel - I have found MY voice. MY truth. And MYSELF.

Spending time in the US and Los Angeles has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I needed to just live to become the artist that I am, today.

With that being said,

In this next chapter, I am choosing to be the most authentic me. Which is why I’m from now on going by the name OWJI (pronounced O-G). OWJI is my family name, and who I genuinely feel I am at my core.

I have never been as excited about music as I am today. I have been working on my upcoming project for quite some time, and feel honored to get to share it with each and every one of you.

I love you all. I missed you.

Can’t wait to let you into my world.

See you soon,

Thank you Almaty!!! Kazakhstan is beautiful. Not at all how Borat made it sound 😂 yes there is horse meat, but the nature is gorgeous, and the people are so sweet and kind! It was an amazing experience, wish I could stay longer and explore 🫶🏼 taken in Almaty, Kazakhstan by @therealowji
