Good thing we like doing stuff and going places because life is wonderfully full of it. Excited for this lovely upcoming season, full of friends and songs. Will we see ya? by @therealsparrowsmith

Ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. I made this headpiece out of fencing and mums for our very cute small town Mermaid Parade.
I am a life long creative and maker. I absolutely love living in a place where I can put this to use by participating in parades, and be inspired by other artists of all ages and the beauty of the world around us. I especially like making things out of recycled and natural materials.

Original tune is called “Flowers”. You can find a recording of it under my band name, @ResonantRogues

An Appalachian murder ballad on a snowy afternoon in the holler. Clarence Ashley’s “Little Sadie”.

Find my original music with @resonantrogues

This was the first tune I learned with drop thumb, many years ago, from my friend Jemule, who generously taught me a bunch of new tunes and techniques when I was starting out. I was just teaching it to a student this afternoon when I looked out the window and realized it was snowing big fat beautiful flakes. Decided to go outside and play it. It’s remarkably not even that cold! Just gorgeous.

Grateful to travel and grateful to come home. Whirlwind week in Cali with a successful red eye at the end to play for @risingappalachia’s beautiful Helene anniversary event. Thanks to @willyteataylor for having us out west for the Good Luck Campout. Excited for the Appalachian autumn here in WNC by @therealsparrowsmith

Happy fall equinox to all my fellow nature lovers! Got to make some sorghum molasses in our holler yesterday. Cathy will have some for sale at the Madison County fair this weekend.

This activity was the inspiration for the lyric “where the harvest helps us know our neighbors” in my song Carolina Mountains, the title track to my last album. My grandparents and great great grandparents made sorghum molasses all the way up in Minnesota, and it feels very ancestrally satisfying, as well as helping me feel rooted where I live in Western North Carolina by @therealsparrowsmith

Popping out west for just a hot second… Playing a house concert in a Santa Cruz on Thursday 9/24 (dm for details, open to the public!) and at Good Luck Campout in the Sierras in the afternoon on Sat 9/26. Then we catch a red eye home to play with Rising Appalachia on Sunday 9/27. Wheeeee!

We have a day off in San Francisco on Wednesday, have some plans but would love to hear what we should see in the city…it’s been a long time! by @therealsparrowsmith

Gearing up for a couple of whirlwind weeks, playing in Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and California. Trying to be as present as possible, while sorting through piles of grief, joy, work, and dreams. Grateful for the opportunity to experience the sunset on Max patch, one of the most stunning places on earth, and for the sweetheart who is present with me for the beautiful times and the hard ones. 📹 by @keith_josiah_smith

🧚‍♂️🪕🐛🪲🏞️ home.

This verse is when everything feels a little unclear- like something needs to change but you can’t figure out how or why.
