“Today, an artist is measured in likes. Not in depth. Not in practice. Not in truth.”

@69db_liveset reflects on what it means to be an artist in a time where visibility replaces substance and algorithms define value.
But real art was never about popularity.
It was about Practice. Discipline. Connection. Flow.

So when did being an artist become about likes instead of practice? Are we supporting real artists...or just feeding the algorithm?

This conversation continues this Wednesday at Off The Decks, the new interview series of Unmasked and @_dance.culture_. An open conversation with London dj rave legend @dj_chris_liberator open to the public.
Another moment to connect, reflect, and dive deeper into rave culture and the techno underground.

And this reel is an excerpt from an exclusive interview by Unmasked, in collaboration with Dance Culture.
A raw and honest moment with 69DB, founding member of the legendary Spiral Tribe (@sp23official). 🏴‍☠️

“Artists can boycott, but only if the public boycotts too. Otherwise, we just get replaced.”

@69db_liveset speaks openly about power, responsibility and the illusion of choice.
The system doesn’t run because of artists, it runs because of the public.

If people pull out, the machine stops.
If people support the underground, we build something different.
This isn’t about trends or pop stars.
It’s about community, responsibility, and choosing where your energy and money go.

Don’t feed the machine.
Support the independents.
Build the space together.

Where do you think the real power sits, with the artists or with the public?

The myth of ‘free’ comes with a price no one wants to name.
@69db_liveset says it without filters: musicians, DJs, artists, technicians… they’re the ones who paid.
And today there’s only one real question:
what do you put into the circle?
Love, money, ecstasy, ego… or community?
What value do you truly give to the underground?

“Information overload will lead to ‘future shock syndrome’ as an individual will suffer severe physical and mental disturbances.”
-Alvin Toffler - Future Shock -

Chapter Three was our most ambitious Futur.Shock to date, and it has inspired and spurred us on for what is to come. We will be closing this season a little differently this year with a co-curation collaboration with @sxswlondon set to take place on the 6th June, at Shoreditch Town Hall, The Ditch.

Huge appreciation to the artists who brought such intensity and vision to Chapter Three —
@eddie_peake and his mesmerising cast; @emmalynne.fisher @corrinmitchell @girlnextdwhore @jackpenate @madinahfarhannah.
@s.a.t.i.n_

The incredible UCL Design for Performance and Interaction students; Chengying Li @yinggniy27, Rixin Wang @jihhsin39, Skylar He @boxedbyhe, Tianxia Jia @tianxia_jj, Yufeng Hu @yfeng_sc, Duo Wang @duo.6727, led by @parkerheyl @paul.bavister & James Wilkie;

Curated by @karolinamagm, this one will stay with us for a while.
