A warm welcome to our newest addition to The Refinery team, Mia Berman-Levy! 👋

💬 What have you been doing pre - The Refinery?
“I trained as an animator but when I started working, I put my hand up for everything and completely fell in love with compositing. I've been crafting pretty pictures and making the impossible possible ever since.”

💬 What’s the best bit about joining The Refinery?
“I’m excited to join a team that spans the entire post-production timeline. It’s the perfect environment to keep learning, growing, and creating alongside some of the best in the craft.”

💬 What will your role entail?
“I’m a Compositor and the best way I can describe my job to friends or family is basically Photoshop on crack for moving images. It’s movie magic. When people say “fix it in post,” that’s what we do.”

💬 What’s harder: making something look real or making it look cool?
“Definitely making it look real. The human eye is so good at picking up when something isn’t right, even if we don’t know exactly why. Making a shot look cool requires playful creativity, but making it look real means fighting physics, lighting, and cameras to seamlessly combine reality and CG.”

Coming soon: Skyline: Warpath, the fourth instalment in the Skyline franchise, written and directed by @liamodin.

Starring @iko.uwais, @thescottadkins, and @louismandylorofficial, the sci-fi action film is a narrative spin-off set between Skyline: Beyond the Sky and Skylines. We handled the grade, VFX and deliverables on this one.

The @nfvfsa has selected Variations on a Theme, directed by @duskant_jason and @delmardevon, as South Africa’s official submission for Best International Feature Film at the 99th @theacademy Awards.

The film won Rotterdam’s Tiger Award, Best African Film at the Joburg Film Festival and Best Feature Narrative at BlackStar, among other honours.
