Something powerful just dropped. 📣 📣 📣

The Lump In Her Throat is officially out.

This isn’t just another novel.
It’s a deeply African story.
A story about the quiet mental health battles we carry in our throats, the ones we swallow, the ones we never name.

At The Regina Mental Health Foundation, we believe stories heal. We use African narratives to open conversations, reduce stigma, and remind people across Nigeria (and beyond) that mental health is real, valid, and worth talking about.

And now, The Lump in Her Throat is part of that mission.

If you’ve ever felt the weight of unspoken pain

If you’ve ever needed a story that finally puts words to what you’ve been feeling

This one is for you.

Go get your copy.

Don’t wait. The story is waiting for you.

Exam week pressure is real, but panic doesn’t help you remember more. Try this: study in short blocks, sleep the night before instead of cramming, breathe deeply before you enter the hall, and remind yourself. Always remember, one exam does not define you.

Yesterday, our partnering organization Leadership Clinic hosted us for their in-house session with our Founder, @jubileeazubike as speaker.

We appreciate the Founder of @leadership_clinicorg, @inijimmy93, the host, and all members of Leadership Clinic for the warm reception and for holding space for mental health.

We discussed the mental health novel, The Lump In Her Throat and answered two real questions - what mental health means in plain language and how to spot trauma patterns.

We learned through story, not lecture.

Our founder shared 5 lessons from the protagonist, Chinwe’s journey:

1. Find courage to do the needful.
2. Leadership has ups and downs.
3. True leadership is owning your struggle.
4. Lead yourself before leading others.
5. Unhealed trauma hurts those you love. Heal first.

At The Regina Mental Health Foundation, we use stories to start conversations and break stigma. This is our second book discussion on our mental health novel and we couldn’t be prouder.đŸ„ł

Throwback to where impact met action! 🧠✹

THROW BACK SATURDAY.
On March 28, 2025, our team was on the ground at Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, driving critical conversations around mental health advocacy.

Breaking stigmas, creating safe spaces, and empowering students to prioritize their well-being remains at the heart of what we do. Looking back at these moments reminds us why this work is so vital.

What’s one mental health practice that has helped you through university or work life? Let us know in the comments! 👇

If someone tells you they’re struggling, you don’t need the perfect words. Stay calm, listen without judging, ask directly if they’re safe, and help them reach a professional — don’t try to fix it alone.

Dear parents,

“How are you?” isn’t enough anymore.

Ask specific questions like “What was the hardest part of today?”. Listen before fixing, and don’t say “it’s not that serious.”

Small, calm conversations build the trust you’ll need later.

We are ending September with honesty. You know that lump? That moment you want to speak up but your throat closes. You want to cry but you have a meeting to lead. That ‘thing’ that’s preventing you from living your best life?

On the 28th of September, Jubilee Azubike, Author of the mental health novel, THE LUMP IN HER THROAT and founder of The Regina Mental Health Foundation, will be at Leadership Clinic to help us understand Chinwe, the protagonist of this masterpiece of a novel. In her case, the lump was her struggle with depression and anxiety disorder and low self-esteem.

We’d discuss the realities of Chinwe’s struggle with her mental health as she moved from secondary school to university and her post-university days and pick out the lessons from her journey to guide our mental well-being. Moreover, it’ll be a time to listen to the raw, unfiltered feedback that members have to share about their experiences with our mental health novel.

Have you grabbed a copy of this novel yet? Please head over to our link in bio to obtain your copy. by @thereginamhfoundation

60 seconds. That’s all it takes to bring yourself back down. Save this for your next hard moment. Share it too; someone’s having a rough day right now.

Let’s kill these myths one by one. These are some of the reasons people who need help shy away from getting help. Myths like this are part of the problem. Share to raise awareness.
