2026 Theme: "Animals with Attitude".

The annual 'Printmaking Palooza' is hosted by printmaker @sally_printmaker in South Australia and her crew at Ingleside Studios. The aim has always been for this international Print Exchange is to connect printmakers from around the world through printed art.

Whether you're a student, a beginner, or an established artist, everyone is welcome to join in the fun.

July 16th is World Snake Day! This day is a global awareness observance dedicated to appreciating and understanding the diversity, preservation, and ecological importance of snakes.

For today, Channey letterpress printed a linoleum cut of a snake that was used for our 2025 Lunar New Year event at the Sacramento History Museum for the Year of the Snake. This linocut was engraved by a colleague who works with Channey at her other job. This was printed with red rubber base ink using our Washington hand press.

I've been hard at work on my first multi block lino! The prep work, image transfer, and registration all take a minute to set up, but the blocks are all carved and the test print is lined up! I'm printing these plump little quail for a print exchange with a deadline coming up, so more to come soon!

March 23rd is National Puppy Day! We actually have quite a few letterpress cuts of dogs to choose from in our print shop exhibit but none are of a puppy.

For today, Jared letterpress printed two examples of dogs that were made 130 years apart. The print on the left is from an electrotype, a copy of a woodcut, that was made by Lewis Winter at his engraving office at 627 J Street in Sacramento in the 1890s. The print on the left is from a linoleum cut and depicts his two year old basset hound named Jethro. This was carved by a colleague (@theresasaurus_press) at his other job. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press, which was made in 1852.

February 1st is National Serpent Day! Serpents, which are also known as snakes, have been prominent on the Lunar Calendar because we are about to end the Year of the Snake.

For today, Jared letterpress printed a linoleum cut of a of a serpent that was used for this past Lunar New Year event at the Sacramento History Museum. This linocut was engraved by a colleague (@theresasaurus_press) who works with Jared at his other job. The text below states, “National Serpent Day” and was typeset in 30 point Caslon font. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press.

Speaking of the Lunar New Year, we will be celebrating the Year of the Horse at the Museum on February 15th from 11am to 2pm!

We have been preparing a wide variety of letterpress printed greeting cards to have available in our museum store and website. Known also as the “Festival of Lights,” we have a Hanukkah card to add to our collection of holiday cards available in our museum store.

In this video, Jared shows the letterpress printing process to print the card. The phrase, “Happy Hanukkah!” was typeset with 24 point Caslon font. The image of a menorah is from a linoleum cut made by a local linocut artist and colleague (@theresasaurus_press) of
Jared at his other job. This was printed with blue rubber base ink using a 3x5 Kelsey Excelsior tabletop printing press.
