Our beloved Caravan was one of three secret doors leading to the Riddle Stage last year.
This year… what will you step through? What riddles will you crack? And what secrets will be waiting on the other side? 🕯️🔑

Only time will tell… 🕰️🌙

Thanks so much to everyone who was there at @theriddle in @wildernesshq on Friday afternoon. What a heartwarming, never to be forgotten gig that was!

I was playing an extended set as part of my 50th anniversary celebrations, starting at 2pm in the afternoon, and opening proceedings just as most people in the real world were getting on with the daily grind. It was glorious sunshine, as has been the norm throughout this summer, but as soon as the space opened it filled up and I was able to build things from ground up, starting out with the downtempo grooves we just don’t hear enough of, before gradually building pace.

Just before I finished I was left somewhat flabbergasted, and very touched, when @jemima_howden from The Riddle brought a cake onstage for me, complete with 50 candles. It was a lovely gesture - the moment thankfully captured on @dansoulsmith’s phone.

It was my third time at The Riddle, it’s a special space within the festival, its own oasis, in a similar way to what The Rabbit Hole was to Glastonbury. It’s a great crew that work behind the scenes, and also out front where the dancers and performers are concerned. I’ve waxed lyrical about The Riddle previously, but it’s going from strength to strength - although I had to get off beforehand, their secret DJ appearance that night was @carlcoxofficial - it’s certainly a space that people want to play.

We stuck around for for a few hours afterwards, with @minnahoneyy following me on, then @lukehmd1969 from @horsemeatdiscosalon - good to catch up with Luke backstage and chat Tricky Dicky Scanes and Norman Scott.

More festival appearances this month for me - @weoutherefest, @lindisfarnefest and @muckyweekender.

Before those it’s a double-header on August 15th when I’ll be at the @esoulcultura day into night party at @freightislandnewcastle, before heading back down to Warrington and a club date at @brickhausclub.
