Join us in welcoming this month’s featured Creative-in-Residence, Violet Taylor.

Violet is a trans-neurodivergent artist navigating the concept of ‘transitioning as art’.

Her current pieces, Calendars, comprises 12 hand illustrated pieces documenting 12 months of her transition. Violet has also just finished a new zine titled Memoirs of a Taurus Rising, Vol. 1 which touches on some experiences she was processing during that 12 month period she was working on “Calendars.”

Other work includes the zines, The Marvelous Adventures of a Cancer Moon & The Sun and Moon and Stars. She enjoys working with fabrics and textiles too!

We're so so soooo happy to welcome our newest cohort of CIRs (Creatives in Residence)! A few of them joined us for a beloved Ruby tradition: happy hour (and a half 😉). Plus, Erin X. Wong made olive oil cake with figs, and blood orange sparkling water 🍊!

Our CIR program is so special to us; it's designed to offer creatives the opportunity to immerse themselves in a supportive environment and create new work while interacting with the Ruby community! Many of our CIRs are involved with the Ruby today. Community is truly everything, especially for artists. 💖

Countdown to Wine Flair SF is on, and we are thrilled that Tara Gomez and Mireia Taribo from Camins 2 Dreams will be joining us! 🍾

Camins 2 Dreams is a family-owned winery founded in 2017 by the wife winemaking duo, Tara Gomez, a member of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians, and Mireia Taribó, hailing from Catalunya. Together, they craft wines that celebrate their diverse heritage while embracing a philosophy of minimal intervention—fermented with natural yeast and low levels of SO2. Committed to showcasing the distinct character of each vineyard, they exclusively partner with organic, biodynamic, and regenerative vineyards in San Benito and Santa Barbara County, with a focus in Sta. Rita Hills AVA, all of which uphold a deep respect for the land and its workers.

In addition to their delicious wines made from Gruner Veltliner, Carignan, and a host of other grapes, Camins 2 Dreams made a Guardian Vital Syrah in 2023. Tara Gomez is on The Vinguard’s advisory board, and both she and Mireia have joined us at Wine Flair in Austin, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. We’re so happy to have them back in the Bay!

One year ago, brother and sister Rabina and Santosh opened Bir Kitchen on 24th Street, blessing us with the rich and vibrant flavors of India and Nepal, right in the heart of the Mission. Rooted in heritage and hospitality, Bir Kitchen shares the foods and recipes passed down through generations with SF’s diverse community including the Ruby.

Last week, we got to enjoy their delicious South Asian food at Community Lunch featuring a custom menu created especially for us!

Thank you Rabina and Santosh for feeding us so well!

We are absolutely head-over-heels in LOVE with one of the city's new bookstores: The Love Potion Library @thelovepotionlibrary. We took a little walk over to them recently to visit and WOW, this city really needed a space like this. The Love Potion Library serves as a dedicated romance bookstore, tea room, and wine bar. They also carry bookish merch, have cozy seating, and special events monthly! Go grab a book, tea, and a pastry!

Our first Italian book club night was fantastico!

Neopolatena and CIR Sara Marinelli led us on a discussion of Elena Ferrante’s debut novel, TROUBLING LOVE. The evening was complete with delicious Italian treats courtesy of Sara and participants! Pasta, panna cotta, and a good book—what more could you want? ✨

🌕🧘🏻‍♀️🥮

The vibrations were high at last Friday’s Full Moon Meditation and Sound journey in honor of the Mid-Autumn Festival!

Led by Ruby Gladys Lu and guest musician MaFi, we gave ourselves permission to slow down and let go. Fully immersed in mindful breathing and the soothing sounds of an ocean drum along with a gong and other instruments, many of us walked away feeling reenergized and a sense of gratitude.

Afterwards, we shared of the experience over drinks and light bites including delicious Mooncakes from Ruby Peggy Lee! We also took in the beauty of the moon. Dang, she’s special!

Thanks to everyone that attended. Special shout-out to Gladys and Fernanda (MaFi) for taking us on a wonderful trip. We look forward to the next one!
