This is where your flowers come from ✨

Local flowers are magic . Although we use imports, it’s the local stuff that we’re passionate about.

Uniquely beautiful, tied to the season, and so much better for the environment. Local flowers make all the difference in the work we do and why do it.

Local flowers. Sustainably grown. Absurdly beautiful. by @thesecretspotflowers

Sophie had quite the beautiful outdoor dining experience with her friends for her 18th birthday! Everything was perfect and I loved watching them all enjoy the matcha, sushi over constant laughter. Tina nailed it and is officially the coolest mom ever. Stunning!

I was one of those millennials who probably should have waited to go to college (or avoided it and the subsequent student loans entirely).

After realizing I wasn’t good enough at math and science to become a large-animal (or any animal) vet, I finished up as quickly as I could, taking as many “easy” classes in reading and writing as possible (ie English Lit). I emerged 4 years later with a bunch of debt but some books and writers I really liked.

Few writers stuck with me quite like Ralph Waldo Emerson. A sensual writer and thinker who loved nature so much his writing can make you blush - though he’s probably better known for his writing on self reliance and not following convention.

I think about his writings a lot in the work we create. Not because I think our way is the only right way, or better than anyone else’s. But because I believe art should reflect the people who make it, the place it comes from, and the things they care about.

For us, that means responsibly grown flowers as our medium (with the goal of becoming less reliant on imports), no floral foam, and designs that embrace the season rather than try to make nature conform to a trend.

Our work doesn’t look like a photo on Pinterest or the latest TikTok trend. And that’s intentional.

If you’re looking for something unique, a little wild, and connected to the season, we’d love to connect. If you’re looking for something else, that’s okay, too. There are wonderful florists making all kinds of beautiful work.

We’re just here, unapologetically making ours. 🧡 by @thesecretspotflowers

Native aster, it’s like pixie dust ✨ by @thesecretspotflowers

Unfussy and elegant garden style flowers - like something you’d find on a table in the south of France - all locally and sustainably grown (with the exception of some incredible dahlias from @sunnymeadowsflowerfarm ) for a very special wedding at the effortlessly romantic @n7nola 🩷 by @thesecretspotflowers

Flowers so local that they sometimes come with the cutest stowaways 💚 by @thesecretspotflowers

Dahlias are native to the arid mountains of Mexico.

Yet here one is, growing in southern Mississippi. During our hot and humid summers, I think of a friend who grows them in the Scottish highlands - a stones throw from Lochness.

It isn’t easy for them to grow in these extreme places, but they do.

This flower has traveled so far from where it began - crossing oceans and landscapes and made up borders. It took root in many new places, becoming so beloved that people have forgotten where it came from and have adopted it entirely as their own.

Perhaps it didn’t choose to travel but it did and eventually it thrived in its new place.

Movement is natural. Seeds travel on the wind. Hummingbirds migrate thousands of miles. People do, too. The lines we draw on maps are human-made and the natural world has never been particularly interested in them.

So when you see a dahlia, a zinnia, or a marigold - or any flower really - think of the color and warmth of the people and places that cultivated these beautiful flowers long before they entered our gardens and hands.

And when you meet someone who is new here, offer them kindness. We all know what it feels like to be new and to try to put down roots 🩷 by @thesecretspotflowers
