Fall is right at our doorstep so let’s end another summer looking back at the last of our Soirée Workshop Series classes starting with HCF’s Operations Director, Sophie! Sophie embodied so much personality, style and sass, we couldn’t help but have so much fun with this piece! You don’t have to try to hard to hear the screams and cheers as she slays her boots down.

Stay tuned to our Soirée dedicated insta page year-round for more content, updates, and announcements for all things Space Soirée!

Sophie has been dancing with HCF for around 2 years now and involved with a couple of projects in the DMV (Project Li, Alter Ego). She is mostly self-taught and started dancing her freshman year with Moonlight, a dance crew at UNC-Chapel Hill. This is her first workshop in a hot minute, but she’s excited to dance and have a great time with everyone! by @thespacesoiree

Give it up for @bombsuki & @kowlwala !! They brought this ballad to life with their piece and had us all channeling our inner Mariah Carey.

INTRODUCING OUR TEACHERS FOR WORKSHOP #3 OUT OF 4

Born and raised in the DMV, Putra Surya began his dance journey as a bboy, then joined his first hip hop choreography team in 2010 with Future Shock DC where he was able to hone his skills with various hip-hop styles. In 2014 he took dance to a competitive level with the dance team, Capital Funk. During his competitive journey he was able to contribute as a choreographer and leader winning multiple competitions across the East Coast. Now an instructor to various studios, and a recent creative board member/choreographer for the IDL NY community-division placing team, Day One. Putra hopes to share his love for dance with others.

Matee started dancing after watching Kaba Modern on America’s Best Dance Crew and thinking yeah I wanna do that. He started dancing in the area with Capital Funk, Future Shock DC, and eventually Day One. Dance has always been a big part of his life and something he’s always found his way back to. Now as a dad, it’s become an outlet for him to still have something that’s his and stay connected to something he’s loved for so long. He just wants to keep dancing for as long as he can and have fun doing it.
✨
Victoria has been dancing in the DMV area for around 3 years now with @hyperspacecommandforce @comebackcrew and @architects.mvmt ! She is also leading a project called The Village for Space Soirée :) She has been dancing hip hop, jazz and contemporary styles for years in Texas, South Korea and now the DMV. She is so excited to dance with everyone!!

INTRODUCING OUR TEACHERS FOR WORKSHOP #2 OUT OF 4

Vicky is from Queens, NY where she first started her dance journey (during the pandemic lol). She danced on and choreographed for @capitalfunk, @helixdancecrew, and @soulstylzdance during her undergraduate years and after, danced with @hyperspacecommandforce, @proj_esencia, and a few other projects. Her style is a combination of femme, grooves, and slinkydinky-ness. She enjoys bringing something new to the table and hopes to have fun wiggling with everyone!
✨
Josué, originally from Boulder, Colorado, began dancing in middle school after trading his clarinet for sweatpants and sneakers to join his performing arts school’s dance program.

He quickly became a dedicated studio kid and never looked back. After graduating college, Josué moved to Washington, D.C., where he joined Capital Funk, later serving as a captain. He has performed with projects including Pocket Monsters and ShoOffNation and is the founder and director of Project Esencia. His classes emphasize performance, musicality, and execution while incorporating foundational hip-hop styles.

INTRODUCING OUR TEACHERS FOR WORKSHOP #1 OUT OF 4

In 2021, two divas’ fates collided at the University of Maryland, College Park. Over the years, their friendship, chemistry, and powers have grown stronger as they shared countless stages through GGWB and Phunktions. Now, Rebecca (@rejeccabang) is active on Day One and Kevin (@kevingigi2001) is captaining for Capital Funk, but when their stars align, the two dancers have been known to collaboratively serve in projects such as Club Krèmelin and Ctrl+C. For this upcoming HCF workshop, they’re combining forces once more. They’re excited to share their love of dancing and looking forward to joint-slaying with you all!
