🔁 @richardboydbarrett Tonight the Irish government will decide to either sanction the apartheid state Israel or continue to be complicit in its brutality. In 1987, I witnessed the first Palestinian Intifada, completely by accident, and the world saw one of the most heavily armed militaries on earth brutalise, maim and kill unarmed civilians demanding freedom and dignity. From that moment, I committed myself to the struggle for justice in Palestine and it is directly what led me into the world of politics and the struggle for justice and equality in all corners of our society and across the globe.

For decades, Palestinians have faced military occupation, siege, illegal settlements and collective punishment, while governments around the world have failed to act.

Ireland, with our own history of colonial oppression, has a particular responsibility to stand firmly with oppressed people fighting for self-determination and freedom. We must honour our obligations under the Genocide Convention and international law by demanding immediate and meaningful sanctions on the Israeli state, including boycotts, divestment and the ending of all political, economic and military support that enables the continued destruction of Palestinian lives. by @thetokenjedi
