They are wild horses, feral if you will. Their treatment represents so much more than a decision made in a vacuum. They represent our values as humanity.

It speaks to what we have become as people. For good or bad, they are a mirror, showing us where we are failing and where we can do better.

Too often we take, with little or no thought to the cost… One day we may lose it all if we don’t begin to value those things that matter most, the creations of the divine.

Burnt woods and all.

If we are making trades between the land and convenience, comfort, speed and progress, I still choose the land.

I think that is what we are choosing. How much do we value technology and the ways it makes our life easier, versus the messy difficult, challenging life more connected to the natural world.

There is no doubt in my experience that this life with land, open skies and dark nights is not convenient, it's less comfortable, more difficult, but still, it is richer.

I sometimes think about leaving, but I don't think I ever could live a life where the rugged land wasn't a part of it. by @thetouchofamustang

There are fewer excuses than ever before to have anything you want in life.

Yet we try to tell ourselves otherwise. We try to make our success a factor of outside forces. When they are the forces beyond our reach we have found our excuse.

But here's the secret of success. It is an inside job.

The beauty and good of your life is easy to take for granted.

We each have been given something special to cherish and utilize as we move through this life. It may be a horse, family, our creativity. It varies between us.

Once we see all we have, we can take that and bring even greater goodness into our lives and the world.

Cowboy K from Episode 89 is doing just that. Taking what he has and expanding it into something amazing.

@cowboyk1 takes his horses from his rural Illinois ranch into the streets of Chicago.

His purpose?

To share the joy of horses with every person in Chicago.

As he's done this he has helped others see the powerful joy that comes through horses.

What began as a ride into the city has transformed into a mission to bring children into the world of horses and to help kids see that they can accomplish anything they set their mind to.

@cowboyk1 is not just worth a follow, but supporting his mission. He's currently working to acquire a larger vehicle so he can bring more children from Chicago to his ranch to spend time with horses.

The Mustang mare is often unappreciated for the strength she carries. Labeled difficult, unyielding and tempremental.

She can be demanding, but she doesn't demand more than she gives in return.

She is unwilling to follow without reason and the privilege first being earned.

She will not always go along with the expectations of others simply for the sake of ease or to appease. Willingly she will forge her own path and follow her own way, even if it is more difficult, when it aligns with her needs.

She is kind and gentle but retains a wildness that she refuses to let be broken.

She will love and care for you deeply if you have earned a place by her side. She will be loyal and expects the same in return.

When needed, she will fight. She will run when she needs release. She will yield and care for you when you need a companion.

Some avoid mares. I seek them out. I value their honesty and strength. I find myself with them. by @thetouchofamustang

Today my wounded ones got to come out for awhile for the first time. Everything is still a mess. Piles of slash everywhere. Burnt trees. No more fence.

But this was a huge step when I didn't even know if they would both make it after being chased by a mountain lion, with injuries from barbed wire.

Here we are. Back to this place we've loved. So altered. We are all so changed, but moving forward.

I talk all about it on the latest episode of the podcast.

Living through a wildfire was never on my bucket list, but now it's checked off.

Horses don’t need us to fix them. They need us to stop making out problems theirs.

Who can relate 🙋‍♀️

The biggest shift in horse work?

Stop asking the horse to carry your fear.
Stop making the horse do your healing for you.
Start learning their world, not forcing yours onto them.

That’s where the real relationship starts.

When you understand why a horse is saying no, spooking, shutting down, or pushing back, everything changes.

Stop worrying so much about being in control and start working towards a conversation.

That’s the middle ground.

Not domination. Not fantasy.

Honesty, safety, and trust.

If you’ve ever felt your horse was reflecting something back to you, you already know.

Tag someone who needs this direction.
