Mitsuki (pronounced "Mitski") is a spayed domestic shorthair born in July 2021. She is incredibly smart, affectionate, and very food motivated. If treats are involved, she loves learning tricks and figuring things out. She enjoys wand toys, chasing milk caps across the floor like a hockey puck, and snuggling up for naps. She is a very social cat and usually won't hide when visitors come over. She will greet you at the door when you get home and will follow you around wanting attention. She also has different little chirps and meows, depending on whether she's asking for pets, treats, or dinner. She loves chin and cheek scratches and actually does not mind being brushed. She also enjoys sitting on your lap if you have a soft blanket over you. Sometimes she'll even hop onto your shoulders if she's curious about what's going on. Mitsuki likes to do things on her own terms. She has been around other cats but is not thrilled when they come near her, and prefers humans. Because of this she would do best and would be happiest as the only pet in the home. She has not lived with dogs or children, but she tends to enjoy a quieter environment where her boundaries are respected. She is litter box trained and has used both regular and automatic litter boxes. She does scratch furniture, so having several scratching posts and cardboard scratchers will help. She is also very observant and can learn how to open cabinets if she watches you enough. She does well with routine. She usually gets kibble from an automatic feeder and looks forward to her wet food every evening. She will happily remind you about dinner starting about 30 minutes early. She also sheds quite a bit, so be prepared for some extra white fur around the house. Mitsuki would do best with someone who is home often because she loves being around her person and does experience separation anxiety. If you are looking for a cat who is smart, affectionate, full of personality, and will happily spend time with you every day, then she will make a wonderful companion. Meet Maru! Maru is a domestic shorthair born in April 2022. He started out very shy and took about six months to fully trust people, but once he did, he became the sweetest, most loving boy. Maru absolutely loves other cats and would thrive with a playful, friendly feline companion who enjoys wrestling and keeping up with his energy. He may also do well with a small/medium energetic dog experienced with cats. His favorite things include catnip mice, mealtime, sunny spots, soft blankets, and romaine lettuce! He loves curling up into a tiny ball with his face tucked under his paws. He doesn’t like being picked up, but happily sits on a blanket-covered lap and enjoys cheek scratches, back pets, and brushing. Instead of meowing, he makes adorable little chirping sounds. Maru is litter box trained and has used both regular and automatic boxes. He does scratch furniture, so scratching posts and cardboard scratchers are important. He’s also a clever little guy who can figure out how to open cabinets and closets! Maru would do best in a quiet home with someone patient who will give him time to adjust. Plushy is a 7-year-old Toy Poodle/Maltese mix with the softest heart to match his name. Once he warms up and trusts you, he becomes your little Velcro dog—always close, always loving, and always ready to roll over for belly rubs (and yes, he’ll ask for them all day long!). His foster mom says he’s potty trained which is a plus. Plushy has had some health issues over the last few months that have addressed by the shelter Vet. He will need Yeast Infection medication as needed. He is cleared up, but sometimes there is a chance that it comes back. He will need regular eye meds for life but its a small price to pay for this cutie. Plushy needs to go to an experienced owner only and there should be no small children in the household, as he can be a bit bratty and mouthy when he gets nervous and anxious. Don’t let his age fool you—Plushy has the energy of a puppy! He loves going for walks, running around, playing, and then curling up for cuddles. His tail is almost always wagging, especially when he’s greeting people or hoping for extra attention. Plushy gets along well with other dogs and enjoys being around his people that he is use to. He can be left alone for short periods, but he truly prefers a home where someone is around most of the time—he’s happiest when he’s by your side. At home, Plushy is wonderfully cozy. He has a bed in each room and will tuck himself in when you go to bed—though he sometimes chooses to snuggle up with you instead. He’s also a big fan of squeaky toys, so get ready for lots of playful noise! When it comes to snacks, Plushy’s favorites are healthy ones—especially carrots and bananas. Stella Brennan and Luna Dale are super sweet Neapolitan Mastiffs girls. They are three and six years old respectively and we think Luna Dale might be Stella's mom. They are very bonded and must stay together. They are strong but loving and enjoy being right by your side. They don't need tons of space, but a yard where they can go after lounging in the air-conditioned living room, would be ideal. These girls were inside/outside pets before they came to us, so house training issues seem to be worked out. Of course they need to learn the rules at a new home, but they're pretty smart and should learn quickly. They love to play with toys, and Stella Brennan loves water and can splash in a kiddie pool like no one's business. This breed is loyal, sensitive, and affectionate and we are hoping that we can find them a home that is able to physically handle two big, strong, girls and give them all of the love that they deserve. If you are wondering about the names, its because we did not know what their names were when they arrived but we were later told they were Stella and Luna. Staff had already named them Brennan and Dale, (yes, we know they are girls) after the movie "Step Brothers". This is because they play fight like the characters in that movie and are just as goofy. Tyson (Max) is a sweet gentle giant. He was originally found as a stray in Burbank and spent a good amount of time here. He was friendly with staff and volunteers and was an excellent guest. He was adopted and we thought it was his happily ever after, until someone spotted him at another shelter. We were fortunate enough to have a kennel space for him, and he was picked up from that shelter and brought back here, where he is known and loved by our staff and volunteers. So, let’s try this again! Originally Tyson, but named Max by the last adopters, needs another chance at happiness. He is a mature gentleman, that seems to be house/potty trained and is just looking for a calm, stable, loving, home. He has participated in Play Groups with other dogs, so if you’re looking for a companion for your dog, he might fit the bill. He would also make a good companion for a younger puppy who needs to learn the ways of life from an experienced boy. We are unsure how he is with kids, so a meet and greet is a must, but we suspect he would do okay with respectful children. Help heal this sweet boy’s heart and give him the home he deserves. Petunia didn’t have a great start at life. We knew this right away when she showed up as a stray in the city. We went slow and spent the time needed for her to trust us. Turns out, she’s pretty darn fabulous! She still shows some fear and aggression through the cage with the public, but that’s because she is unsure of new people and their intentions. We highly recommend that you ask to see her out of her kennel, to get a better idea of her true personality. Petunia is not a good choice for a first-time dog owner. She needs to go to someone experienced and someone willing to continue her socialization. She attends our Sundays Hikes and goes on day trips with our volunteers, and she is learning that not everyone is bad or wanting to do harm to her. It’s a slow process but its working. She should go to an adult home for now. Small kids may trigger her fear. She loves other dogs and would definitely benefit from going home with a four-legged buddy. She is so unbelievably loving once she trusts you, she just melts in your arms. Petunia is young and will adjust well to a routine and regular socializing/training. If you see yourself being that person and are willing to give what it takes to heal this sweet girl’s heart, ask to see her out in the yard for a meet and greet.
