Parking During Roadwork

Please plan a little extra time to park and get to The WECC for the next while. The City of Winnipeg is adding a bicycle lane to Sherbrooke Ave. (Yay!). The downside is that Sherbrooke will not be available for parking during this roadwork, which is scheduled to last from now until the fall, exact end date TBD. Ellice, Furby, Maryland and other side streets remain good parking options.

If you want someone to walk you safely to your car after a performance, ask one of our volunteers, and we will arrange an escorted walk.

See you soon! by @thewecc

Women’s Adventure Film Tour
Thursday October 22nd
The West End Cultural Centre, 586 Ellice Ave.
Door 6pm Films 7pm
Co-presented with Wilderness Supply

The Women’s Adventure Film Tour is a celebration of the inspiring women around us who are doing extraordinary things in the name of adventure. Every year, our selection of unique films is carefully chosen to show awesome women achieving their personally adventurous goals. Being adventurous doesn’t always have to mean being the fastest, going the highest, or doing the most extreme things. Adventure for most of us is stepping outside our comfort zone and climbing our own personal Everest. The films showcase real stories about women from a variety of cultures and sports around the world. by @thewecc

Crafts and Céili (October)
Sunday October 4th
The West End Cultural Centre, 586 Ellice Ave.
Doors 1:30pm, Music 2:30pm-6:00pm

Crafts, Irish Music. For fans of fun, third spaces, hanging out.
Join us for a session of Irish music (a céili, pronounced kay-lee) in the hands of some of the top trad music players in Winnipeg. The WECC held 2 Crafts and Céili events last year, and they were a hit! We’re back at it, due to popular demand.
The musicians will play a million tunes, calling out a new one before the last one even ended. It is awesome. We’re going to feel like we’re in a movie. In the style of the ceilidh, let’s hang out, listen, grab a beer, pull out a craft (optional), get dancing (also optional) and stay a good long while!

Bring your crafts! Knitting, embroidering, collaging - basically anything that doesn’t require a power tool - it’s all welcome at this Crafts and Céili event! Don’t have a craft handy? Learn to knit at the free knitting workshop! We’ve already got yarn and knitting needles collected for this event, so if you don’t have your own you’re welcome to come learn with our supplies!
Catch us for Crafts and Céili December on Sunday December 6th.

Re: music, this is a closed session of an existing group of players. If you’re interested in Irish session jams, please check out The Irish Club. They host jamming sessions regularly. by @thewecc

Miesha and the Spanks w/ Mise en Scene
Saturday October 3rd
The West End Cultural Centre, 586 Ellice Ave.
Doors 6pm Music 7pm (this is the new, earlier start time)
Youth 19 and under get in FOR FREE! Just show up, no ticket needed
Adults 20+, 30% off with discount code MIESHA

Punk Rock. For fans of Kim Gordon; PJ Harvey, Joan Jett, Melissa Auf der Maur, Sleater-Kinney, St. Vincent

MIESHA AND THE SPANKS @mandthespanks
A modern singer/guitarist and beloved fixture on the local scene, front-woman Miesha Louie is the integral driving force behind Miesha and The Spanks, supported by her psychic counterpart, percussionist Sean Hamilton (an accomplished singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist in his own right) — intuitively punctuating her soulful choruses with a pounding intensity that simultaneously elevates heart rates and ceiling rafters.

A mixed-Secwépemc artist living in Treaty 7 Territory, Miesha has devoted her entire career to inventing and playing instrumentally brilliant melodies that unleash her passions and full-throated vocal tones. With a serious dose of spirit and charisma in her back pocket Miesha is ready to throw down and make every song resonate with her own jagged signature. Confronting raw subjects and creating a legacy of slaying misogyny, each of the duo’s songs are a sonic statement that masters the noisy by applying a no-nonsense approach.

MISE EN SCENE @miseensceneband
The most honest transformations start small.
They creep up through an accumulation of subtle shifts, a fluid expansion reaching further and further upward. There are moments of awkward spurts or growing pains, moments where time is at a stand still. But one day things are different, all your memories and past selves and experiences coming together to form the present moment. by @thewecc

Saturday October 10th
The West End Cultural Centre, 586 Ellice Ave.
Doors 7pm Music 8pm

For fans of Bruce Cockburn, James Keelaghan, Brandi Carlile, Jane Sibbery

Singer-songwriter, entertainer, TV personality, and women’s music pioneer, Connie Kaldor is celebrating over 45 years in show business! At 72, she is not slowing down! Her upcoming album Wide Open Spaces is inspired by her roots in the Canadian Prairies!
Connie Kaldor began her career in folk music as part of the Canadian wave alongside artists like Stan Rogers and Valdy. Armed with her enormous stage presence, her unforgettable melodies, and her emotional depth as a songwriter, Connie became a headline act on the festival circuit. Her extensive touring has earned her a loyal fan-base that extends far beyond the traditional boundaries of folk and the Boston Globe has described her as, “a masterful performer, wildly funny one moment, deeply personal the next.” A three-time Juno Award winner, Connie is a member of the Order of Canada, a Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal recipient, holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Regina, and is the first songwriter to receive a Western Literature Association Award of Merit.

In the last year, Connie received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Woodstock Folk Festival, was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award and nominated for Song of the Year at the Folk Alliance International Folk Music Awards. by @thewecc

Virgo Rising Album Release w/ tofusmell, Meadows
Friday October 2nd
The West End Cultural Centre, 586 Ellive Ave.
Doors 7pm Music 8pm

@virgorisingmusic @tofusmell @meadow_music__

Virgo Rising is an indie rock band from Winnipeg, Canada. Led by vocalist and guitarist Emily Sinclair, alongside multi-instrumentalist siblings Jenna and Lauren Wittmann and drummer Isaac Tate, the group blends distorted guitars, lo-fi samples, and introspective lyricism for a sound that is both tender and expansive—“knotty and intricate but never belaboured,” as Exclaim!’s Kaelen Bell describes, “a complex web of light put to tape.”

Wishbone, Virgo Rising’s debut full-length album, marks a turning point for the band. Self-produced and shaped through a deeply collaborative process, the album sees the group confidently settle into their independence. Embracing contrast and authenticity, the music moves between brooding tension and static bursts of energy layered beneath diary-like lyricism with a quiet, self-assured vulnerability. by @thewecc
