Today is #IDAHOBIT - the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia. And on this day, I ask you to remember that acephobia matters to. We also face discrimination, we just don't get the same degree of support, allyship or awareness. 💜

Sorry for having Black features, I guess. 🫠

When I say that people talk about me (and often to me) differently to white ace activists, this is an example of what I mean.

New vibe, new era. ✨️ Trying to strike the balance more between my activism and my modelling recently, UN-follow-ups and photo shoots back-to-back. Got something exciting to release during Asexual Awareness Week and good news on the horizon, but in the meantime, here's my new portfolio updates. 👀

Qwear's Yasmin Benoit, award-winning British model, activisit, and founder of the #ThisisWhatAsexualLooksLike movement introduced asexuality to the @unitednations for the first time at the Human Rights Council's 63rd Session in Geneva, Switzlerland. “Asexuality has never been a topic raised at the UN,” Yasmin shared. “In fact, asexuality isn't even a recognized term there.”

Yasmin reached out to UN officials and diplomats from different member states, including representatives from the Human Rights Office, asking to discuss asexual discrimination and medicalization. “I'm pleased to share that my schedule was full and everyone was really engaged, receptive and that the conversations are continuing!” Yasmin shared.

Some good news for a change! Seattle has made it illegal to discriminate against asexual people by explicitly including us in their new civil rights code and expanding their definition of sexual orientation. This comes alongside the inclusion of pansexual people and those in consensual non-monogamous relationships.

Shoutout to @openloveorg for your work on this, to councilmember Alexis Mercedes Rinck and to the legendary asexual activist David Jay (yes, he still does a lot), for their work on this! 💜🖤

I just wanted to take a moment to apologise to everyone I offended with my purple plaid skirt. Over the past few days, I've received thousands of comments across my socials, namely focused on one thing.

For context, I attended the 63rd Session of the Human Rights Council at the United Nations in Geneva and had meetings with various UN officials about asexuality, our patholisation and our place in human rights laws. It was 32 degrees Celsius in a building with no air conditioning and I made the decision to not die of heatstroke.

In doing so, I offended a lot of so-called "gender critical feminists" who don't like women very much. I appreciate that the fact that I got to speak at the UN and they didn't was also shocking and hurtful. I suppose UN officials recognise when someone is saying something evidence-based and worthwhile as opposed to welcoming those who spend their free time hate-gooning on X.

And this is part of the reason why #ThisIsWhatAsexualLooksLike exists. 💜🖤

I made it to the UN! It's a goal that never felt realistic. Asexuality has never been a topic raised at the UN. In fact, asexuality isn't even a recognised term there. But that was precisely why I wanted to go there. To plant the seeds, to start the conversations, to raise the awareness and bring about tangible, global change further down the line.

Asexuality is being left out of the majority human rights laws across the world despite increasing amounts of evidence showing that we need the same protections. But there are places where that is changing - Australia, the Netherlands, Spain, hopefully the UK - particularly with asexual-inclusive conversion therapy bans coming into place. Bans which are at odds with UN guidance as the WHO still pathologises asexuality as a disorder.

In an entirely self-funded, self-organised trip, I took myself to the Human Rights Council's 63rd Session, and scheduled meetings with UN officials and diplomats from different member states, including from their Human Rights Office, to discuss asexual discrimination and our medicalisation.

I had no idea how I'd be received or even if people would want to meet with me, but I'm pleased to share that my schedule was full and everyone was really engaged, receptive and that the conversations are continuing!

I couldn't have done this without the allyship and support of specific people within organisations like ILGA World, the FCDO, and Outright International (you all know who you are). And shout out to the Aces in Geneva who helped me to blow off some steam between meetings! 💜🖤

One of the common sentiments I still get when I say I'm asexual is, "But you still want a romantic partner?" "You're still going to fall in love, though?" "But you're not just going to be alone forever?" "You do still find people attractive in SOME way, right?"

After a while, it feels like code for, "You can still do ONE normal thing?" Something to fit the allonormative expectation, as not to be twice as unusual.

I don't blame people for asking because even most coming out scenes for asexual characters involve the the rapid ressurance that they're not "one of those asexuals" to whoever they're talking to. Well, just in case you forgot, I AM one of those. I'm just not really into green. 😂

And no, aromantic ≠ lonely. 🖤💚🤍

Back to black! How are we feeling about it?

After 3 fun years living my Storm fantasy, I've decided to go back to my roots. So even though I'm still posting work that was shot when I was blonde, please don't be startled when you see me in person. 😂 by @theyasminbenoit
