Day 1 brought together many formats–plenaries, teach-ins, workshops, lightning talks, films, performances and curated spaces, all exploring gender, data, movements, desire, language, disability, care, digital rights, community and more.

From conversations that sparked new ideas to hands-on sessions that built skills, the day was full of learning, connection and collaboration. Diverse perspectives challenged the way we think and reminded us why this community exists: to share knowledge, build solidarity and to RETHINK, REWORK and RECLAIM the world together.

When girls have the opportunity to learn, they have the power to shape their futures.

This #InternationalDayoftheGirlChild, we’re kicking off a month-long series spotlighting young women leaders from CREA’s Roshni Programme who are challenging inequalities and driving change in their communities.

Today, meet Deepa Paswan from Lakhisarai, Bihar!

Through her community action project, Deepa is addressing barriers that push girls out of school, from inadequate sanitation to a lack of science teachers. Her efforts have directly supported 95 girls who had dropped out of school through awareness, counselling and re-enrolment support.

CREA’s Roshni Programme strengthened young women’s leadership, constitutional knowledge and advocacy skills, enabling them to advocate for their rights and create meaningful change.

Throughout this month, we’ll be sharing more stories of young women turning their ideas into action and building more equitable communities.

Because every girl deserves not just an education, but the freedom to imagine and shape her own future.

#DayOfTheGirl #GirlsEducation #thinkCREA CREA carousel introducing Deepa, a Roshni Community Leader from Lakhisarai. A black-and-white portrait of Deepa appears against a blue background with yellow butterfly illustrations and purple accents. Text introduces her as “Multitasker Deepa” and describes her as someone breaking barriers and building women’s leadership in her community. taken in Bihar Patna by @think.crea

Four years. 20 organisations. One growing feminist movement in Bangladesh. 🇧🇩

On 27 September, CREA brought together FON partners and development partners in Dhaka to reflect on four years of collective action against gender-based violence.
Through flexible feminist funding, FON supported 20 organisations, strengthened 5 networks connecting 100+ grassroots organisations, and helped build stronger systems, visibility and advocacy.

The gathering and the call for sustained, flexible feminist funding were also featured in national media, including bdnews24.com and TBS News, alongside Bengali-language coverage.

Let this momentum keep going.

CREA and our partners are at the SVRI Forum 2026 in Bangkok!

Joining us are grassroots leaders from our partner organisations in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar: Yuva, Lok Prerna Kendra, @swabhimaan.charitabletrust , Izad and Pragati Path Foundation.

The SVRI Forum brings together researchers, practitioners, funders and activists working to end violence. For us, it is a space to listen and learn from grassroots responses across contexts, share knowledge shaped by years of practice, and build connections that strengthen our collective work.

Ending violence cannot be the work of one organisation. It takes movements, partnerships and collective action.

Follow along this week as we share reflections and learnings from Bangkok.

AUGUST AT CREA

Across Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and India, August took us from conversations with feminist partners and networks to spaces for learning, advocacy and collective action.

We reflected on what flexible feminist funding can make possible, strengthened networks and institutional capacities, advanced conversations on women’s economic empowerment and gender-based violence, and continued pushing for disability justice and safer, more dignified sanitation systems.

Across each space, one thread remained constant: lasting change is built through relationships, shared learning and collective power.

Swipe through for a look at August at CREA.

A woman in rural India used to walk to the well. Now more often than not, the well runs dry , so she walks to the next one. Then the one after that. The water didn’t move. The climate did.

Across India and much of the Global South, women and girls carry the primary responsibility for collecting water. Climate variability isn’t creating this burden, it’s stretching it. Erratic rainfall and groundwater depletion mean longer distances and longer queues, which eat into time for school, paid work, and rest. That same exposure also increases the risk of violence during collection. For women and girls with disabilities, the picture is starker still: inaccessible terrain and a lack of assistive infrastructure at water points can shut off access altogether, often deepening dependence on other women as caregivers.

Climate adaptation plans tend to measure water scarcity in litres and kilometres. They rarely measure it in hours taken from someone’s day, or in who is put at risk to close that distance.

When your work maps “distance to water source” as a climate indicator, does it also ask who is walking it, and what it costs them?

Explore how gendered time burdens intersect with climate stress on the Centre for Inclusive WASH
