Today is Lilly's three year Gotcha Day! We had asked @marypryorwithay of @cagetocouchrescue to grab us a girl on her rescue. We had no idea that she would arrive with quite the backstory. She was deemed unadoptable, a mix of no one being able to get near her and her biting everyone, including C2C's vet and his team!

The first night we set up an ex-pen in our bedroom with a crate, pillows, toys, blankets. We got her into the pen where she jumped on top of crate, over the top of the pen and into our bed! She has been a part of our family since.

We had wanted a mate for Gabe, yet had no idea how perfect they would be for each other.

Happy GD, Lilly!

Today is Gabe's fifth birthday! Gabe was rescued by @cagetocouchrescue , one of the last group of beagles to escape the clutches of Envigo, the horrific beagle breading facility for the animal testing industry. that was shut down

We picked up Gabe in front of a cemetery on September 3, 2022. He was so tiny, only 16 pounds. He had just come from his neuter surgery and was covered in his urine. Kezia wrapped him in a blanket and held him the entire 45 minute drive home. He was quite groggy. The vet who did the surgery said he was the most shut down dog he'd met, this coming from a vet who has worked with dozens of beagles from the animal testing world.

Our intention was to foster him until C2C could find a suitable home. Josephine had recently been diagnosed with heart failure and we had recently had another Envigo survivor who kind of terrorized Josie.

Well, we all know how that worked out! If you followed The Daily Gabe here, you know what a handful he was (and is!). But he captured our hearts immediately. After Josie passed, Gabe was an only beagle. We asked Mary to grab us a girl on her next rescue, which turned out to be Lilly. Lilly and Gabe are magic together, right from the start. Hardly a day goes by where they aren't using one another as a pillow, holding hands or just lying next to each other.

Gabe is a really special guy and has brought so much love and joy to our family. Happy birthday, Gabraham!

Last week an independent U.N.-commissioned report was released finding that Israel targeted children (and continue to do so) in Gaza via sniper and drone attacks. What has been overlooked is the motive and strategy. When Israel targets children, it strategically reduces or eliminates future generations of Palestinians. More than 20,000 children have been genocided, and this does not include the thousands buried under rubble. In 10-30 years, those 20,000 children could have become parents to tens of thousands more Palestinians, so Israel’s actions against children are a form of preemptive ethnic cleansing.

We got news that High Quality Research/Red Beast Enterprises has ceased animal testing! This comes on the heels of the Ridglan Farms rescue of 1,500 beagles.

Our Lilly was bred at Ridglan and was rescued from High Quality Research/Red Beast Enterprises after spending one and a half years there. Quite a strange few weeks around here.

First interview w California Gubernatorial candidates. In our so-called democracy, only monied candidates get platforms and invitations to debates. Though some statements border on crazy, it takes guts to run for office, so why not allow them a platform?

After reading through the California Gubernatorial candidates' statements in the Official Voter Information Guide, I decided that I would reach out to all of the candidates with the same nine questions. In our so-called "democracy," only the monied candidates get platforms such as news stories and invitations to debates. Though some of the statements border on crazy, why not allow them a platform? I did reach out to the mainstream candidates, but can be sure none will respond. I will be posting them on my Substack starting tomorrow. Sign up to receive the statements as they arrive as the election is only 19 days out!

Today is Lilly’s fifth birthday! She was bred at Ridglan, now famous or more accurately, infamous. She spent one and a half years at an animal testing lab prior to being rescued. She then spent six months at a rescue, deemed unadaptable because no one could get near her and if they did, she bit them.

We were not sure what we had gotten ourselves into! The very first night, we set up a large pen with beds and blankets and the crate she arrived in. No more than thirty seconds later, she jumped onto the crate and over the pen and into our bed.

She was afraid me during daytime hours, yet slept attached to me in bed where I could pet her. This went on for some time, yet now I can pet her during daylight, well, most of the time! She still barks at me when she’s in the backyard and I enter the kitchen or yard!

In the two and a half years that she has lived with us, she has grown tremendously and has the sweetest disposition. It’s hard to believe she ever bit anyone! And she and Gabe couldn’t be any happier together.
