👹“The Levitating Perils #2” is now live on whitney.org and on the lobby screen at the @whitneymuseum ! (link in bio)
 This new series of five animations follows a floating red monster drifting through time and bias — born from “Yellow Peril” caricatures, reborn as something uncanny, absurdly alive, and maybe… cute (a Chihuahua?). A sequence of four animations switches every six hours over the course of the day with an additional clip interspersed randomly, the work transforms, reshaping a racially charged history into a surreal, speculative space of re-imagination.

✨ On the Hour is a series of Internet art projects that appear every full hour on whitney.org, each unfolding over thirty seconds. Curated by Christiane Paul @paulc236 , Curator of Digital Art at the Whitney Museum of American Art.

At 6:30PM, we will present a panel discussion with the artist Frank WANG Yefeng (@this.frank.wang) joined by Lucas Blalock (@lucasblalock) and Triton Mobley, exploring how rapid technological shifts redefine art, human agency, and collective authorship. This conversation will also be livestreamed on AAI’s YouTube Channel, if you can’t make it here in person!

Through this Fall season, our main gallery is transformed with an immersive video sculpture showcasing a project by Frank WANG Yefeng. The installation features digital avatars of the artist, created in collaboration with 33 creators across the world hired through an online freelance platform, and explores how human connection, labor, and identity adapt within the precarity of digital space.

SAVE THE DATE‼️Friday, Sept. 4, 6-9PM‼️Join us at the Opening Reception + Panel Discussion for AAI’s upcoming exhibition, 𝐀𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝟐.𝟎: 𝟗% 𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐧, 𝟑𝟑% 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐯𝐞, a cyber-collective project initiated by Frank WANG Yefeng, curated by @_joycechung with support from @cole____roberts .💭💬🗯️🤯

Moving between collaboration and constraint, 𝐀𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝟐.𝟎 explores how online networks create new possibilities for labor and connections while obscuring certain forms of subjectivity, authorship, and participation. Through a decentralized chain of image-making, the artist collaborated with 33 internet-based creators to produce portraits of himself, each shaped by the interpretations of others.

In conjunction with the opening reception for the exhibition, AAI will host a panel discussion featuring Lucas Blalock (@lucasblalock 💗) and Triton Mobley 🔮. Together, the artists will explore how the rapid development of technology continues to challenge established understandings of art and human experience, while examining how different experiences of producing art might contribute to rethinking technology today.
