Did you know there are more than 300,000 children currently in the U.S. foster care system and that more than 15,000 children age out of foster care every year without the safety and security of a family? We URGENTLY need foster homes for older children and sibling groups.

As we recognize National Foster Care Month this May, we're examining the current landscape of the child welfare system across the U.S.

Knowing the numbers is the first step towards meaningful advocacy.

How you can help this month:
• Educate: Share this post to bring awareness to the scale of foster care in 2026.
• Advocate: Learn about the specific needs of foster care in your state.
• Support: Visit the link in our bio to learn more about how you can become a foster parent.

What does it mean to put children at the center of care?

At Bethany, it means seeing the whole picture: children, families, caregivers, and communities. It means strengthening families, responding to trauma with compassion, leaning on research and expertise, and bringing communities together to help children and families thrive.

Our approach is child-centered, family-focused, faith-driven, community-supported, trauma-informed, outcomes-oriented, and research-informed.

These principles guide how we serve and help shape a future where children can feel safe, loved, connected, and supported.

Swipe through to learn more about the seven principles shaping our model of care.

I was adopted. Now more than 400 kids in Georgia need your yes.

For the last decade I’ve been doing my best to help kids in foster care get adopted. I’ll never forget a young man who was about to age out of the system. He had lived in more than 16 foster homes. I looked him in the eye and told him I would help. Since then I’ve traveled the U.S., Africa and other countries to share why adoption matters.

Every one of them is legally available for adoption right now. If you’ve been praying for a child, I believe there’s more than one way God wants to bring that child into your home.

Comment LOVE and I’ll send you the link to learn about adoption through foster care with @thisisbethany.

“When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.’”
— Mark 10:14

Jesus didn’t see children as an interruption. He welcomed them, made space for them, and reminded those around him of their worth.

That’s a posture worth carrying into adoption.

Adoption stories are filled with joy, grief, hope, and loss. They call us to slow down, listen deeply, lead with compassion, and keep the child at the center.

Because every child deserves to be seen, known, and cared for.

Follow Bethany for more faith + adoption conversations.

Family, there are more than 400 kids in Georgia's foster care system who are legally available for adoption right now. Not someday. Now. And families are especially needed for older kids, teenagers, and brothers and sisters who want to stay together.

That's why I said yes to partnering with Bethany Christian Services on Say Yes. Every child deserves a family that says yes to them.

You don't have to have it all figured out to take the first step. Comment LOVE and I'll send you the information on adoption through foster care.

Community that shows up. 🤍

Volunteers from 2819 Church spent time packing baskets for foster families in Atlanta.

It’s the little things that remind foster families they’re seen, supported, and surrounded by community. 🫶

Thank you, @2819church, for showing up and serving so well.

When a child arrives, a foster family may suddenly need formula, clothing, hygiene products, child care, or simply someone who understands.

Bethany helps families address what is urgent, navigate assistance programs, and build a wider circle of support through foster closets, churches, support groups, and community partners.

Hear from Kristine as she walks through what support can look like from the first night forward.

Visit Bethany.org to learn how you can help foster families feel supported at every step.

Families grow stronger when support is in place before crisis.

When Desaray faced an unexpected challenge, she was doing everything she could for her son without family, friends, or a community to lean on. Through Safe Families for Children at Bethany, she was connected with caring, vetted volunteers who offered practical support during a difficult season.

What began as help in a hard moment became something deeper: trusted relationship, lasting encouragement, and the village Desaray had been missing.

At Bethany, we believe parents should not have to face crisis alone. With the support of generous donors, volunteers, and community partners, more families can experience safety, stability, and hope when they need it most.

Atlanta, I want to tell you why this one matters to me. Watch this first.

I’m partnering with Bethany Christian Services on Say Yes, Atlanta Adopts. Right here in our city, older kids, teenagers and brothers and sisters in foster care are waiting on a family to say yes.

You don’t have to have it all figured out to ask what adoption takes. Start there.

Worship. Breakout sessions. Conversations in the exhibit hall. A whole lot of learning, sharing, and faith in action.

That’s what made this year’s @cafoalliance summit so meaningful for our Bethany Christian Services team. We’re grateful to reconnect with others committed to children and families and to be part of a community that keeps learning, growing, and putting faith into action.

Keith Cureton’s session on Organizational Drift was a timely reminder that small shifts can pull us away from what matters most. Staying rooted in our mission takes intention and accountability. 💙

When we say “walk in love,” this is what we mean.

We spent the day at @lancasterbiblecollege for the Bethany Walk in Love event during homecoming weekend. There was so much fun between the walk/run and toddler toddle to food trucks, lawn games, and so many smiling faces.

Thank you to everyone who came out, sponsored, walked, or ran! Together, we’re helping keep children safe and families together right here in Pennsylvania.

If you want to support the mission, it’s not too late to give or learn more about supporting local families with Bethany. Visit the link in our bio to support @safefamiliesforchildren or comment “SFFC”.

We often say families need a village. But for many parents, that kind of support isn’t always easy to find.

When Desaray faced an unexpected crisis, she was doing everything she could for her son without a safe or reliable support system to lean on. The difficult circumstances she had experienced in the past had also made it hard to trust someone new.

Through Safe Families for Children at Bethany, Desaray met Amanda, a host who welcomed her and her son with care, consistency, and open arms.

What began as practical support became something much deeper: friendship, family, and the village Desaray had been missing.

This September, your generosity can help more parents facing hardship and loneliness experience safe, loving support when they need it most.
