ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT 📢 ALICIA ‘MAFIA’ COX

Alicia ‘MAFIA’ Cox is a choreographer, dance artist and movement facilitator from East London who uses different sound and performance mediums to create eclectic, meaningful works that often reflect common societal issues and have a captivating emotional pull. Within creation, Alicia explores difficult and under-discussed subject matter whilst simultaneously drawing on her lived experiences, thus presenting striking imagery and symbolism which allows her work to speak for itself and leave her audiences with their own questions and interpretations. Having danced from a young age with the likes of Boy blue, Far from the norm And Diversity, Alicia utilises her knowledge of Hip hop, KRUMP and other street styles to generate her own movement vocabulary. Stylistically, she incorporates a range of dynamic grooves, fragmentation and partner work— evident in the pieces she has created such as M.I.N.D., As Of Late and Infra; these works reflect her strong KRUMP influence through movement and sound which create the signature dark atmospheric undertones associated with her work. In future, Alicia strives to continue making work that challenges her audiences with uncomfortable truths that encourage deep thought.

We can’t wait for Alicia to bring her work to THRESHOLD! Swipe to see some of her previous work 👀
