Mom is 70 today.

In all these years she’s managed a lot: a decades long career helping others as a therapist, four functional sons, a lifetime pursuing her passions. She’s been an inspiration to all who know her. The first person to tell me that I wasn’t reaching for something impossible when I was 17 and applying for college in New York, a place that felt so far away it might as well be fictional.

That’s never been a problem for Mom, a proponent of destiny who will never shake her belief that things happen because a path has been cleared. There’s just one thing you always have to do:

Just fucking go for it.

Here’s a photo of the night she walked home to get her violin because she thought the musical act at The Copper Rocket was unbearably shitty.

We all tried to stop her, but she did it anyway, storming onstage and joining the act. They were good sports and rolled with it. It didn’t hurt that she fucking rocked the place.

Later I’d sell a tv show built around this moment.

Happy birthday, Mom. I love you.

Here’s to the next 70. by @thisiselliott
