POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I went quiet for 3 years. 🤯 Not because I had nothing to say — but because I had too much happening and none of it felt Instagram-ready. I would frantically post on Stories but nothing about motherhood felt good enough for my feed aesthetic. I can’t quite believe it’s taken this long to share this.
I’m also brand creative — and realised I’ve been doing everyone else’s storytelling but my own. So here I am. A bit different. Still me.

Before I was pregnant I shared everything - all my travels, outfits, lovely meals, gym workouts. I posted Stories in the newborn months, all the newness and excitement was interesting enough. But once the dust settled I realised my life had really done a 180. Add to that I hated the stigma of creating ‘mum content’, yapping about naps, weaning, and wake windows.

For 10 years I was immersed in a world of luxury travel and superyachts. I was lucky enough to visit amazing destinations, experienced incredible hotels, going to Monaco Grand Prix and Yacht Shows, even flying in a private jet! To go from this to working from home, in my sweaty office, breastfeeding Cato on one boob and pumping milk on the other: the change felt stark.

🤰🏻I found out I was pregnant days before my last full time role ended and my freelance career kicked off. I was excited to choose my clients, work the hours I wanted and not have to ‘report’ into anyone. But in reality I was writing client handover notes as I went into labour and taking on short high-paying contracts because I was worried clients would forget about me. It wasn’t quite the idyllic mat leave I’d dreamed of.

Once I had my son it was like everything I did was up for scrutiny and comparison. 😞 Cato was a pretty easy newborn, and started sleeping through the nights from 4 months. But for some reason I felt the need to compare every milestone imaginable; is he crawling yet? Is he weaning ok? Is he the right weight/height? When is he going to walk??

Another amazing chat around dating over 30, fertility, and the pressures that come with it this week on the pod. Huge, huge thanks to @thisislouisalau for sharing her experiences.

What happens when you know you want a baby, you’re 36, single, and it’s lockdown?

Creative Director and fellow East Londoner Louisa Lau joins me this week to talk when you starting a family felt like a far off thought, dating with intention and how she went from first date to pregnant in under a year.

It’s honest, hopeful, and exactly the kind of chat we should be having.

If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s OK to bring up babies on a date, or felt like time is running out-it’s not. And this one’s for you.

Update #1: I’m 14 weeks pregnant! 🤰🏻

I’ve been reflecting on how it feels to be pregnant with my first child as a 37 year old woman.

During my twenties, starting a family was not on my radar at all. I was in a long term relationship but career progression seemed like the number one priority at the time, along with gigs, festivals and endless networking. I was so hellbent on proving to my traditional Chinese parents that it was possible to make a living from a creative career. I’m proud to say, I have succeeded, so far.

As I entered my thirties, friends and family started having children, and really, it wasn’t until my sister @susiebubble gave birth to my amazing niece Nico, that I realised my life was missing something. After years of job promotions, work opportunities, what I REALLY wanted, was to be a mother.

Aged 35 (August 2020) and a string of unsuccessful relationships later, I’m panicking. At the height of the pandemic, I was convinced that my body clock was ticking and my fertility was dwindling. The pressure was on.

Earlier this year I’d stopped my hormonal contraception and went in for a fertility test. The results weren’t great so I went all out and got the Natural Cycles app, cut down my alcohol intake, reduced my gym training, overhauled my lifestyle to make sure my body was the best it can be to conceive.

A few months later and after having weird food habits (suddenly hating oat flat whites weird), I took a test. I was absolutely in shock and stunned. I thought it must’ve been a mistake somehow. Nothing prepares you for your shift in the “baby-mindset” and it definitely took me a few weeks to get used to the idea.

This is a photo from my 12 week scan and I’ve been going back and forth on whether to post it, or even talk about my pregnancy status. But I wanted to share my thoughts as I know so many women (friends included) struggle to conceive whether they’re in their 20s or late 30s.

I’m so thankful that my body is able to produce a baby, @josephahuang and I are simply over the moon and all we hope for is a healthy happy baby.
