I am incredibly excited and also a bit terrified to announce this show! Why? Because this will be my very first time playing hammered dulcimer on a gig. I have been working hard building my technique since I bought this beautiful instrument and I can’t wait to incorporate its captivating sound into Barakat’s music. The @nolajazzmuseum is such a gorgeous room to perform in and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have @rajakassis @samkuslan and @calvinmorinmartin to bring this music to life. Being a musician in New Orleans can feel like a video game sometimes with a never-ending series of side quests you have to defeat just to make it to the next show.

Potholes, flash floods, bills… somewhere in there we’re supposed to rehearse and make a promo, too.

So I turned our journey to the Maple Leaf into an RPG, complete with all the mini-bosses we have to overcome to get to the stage on time, plus the healing powers of a 3pc Spicy!

Come help us celebrate surviving the side quests.

Marc welcomes Alex Kennon Shahin and Sam Shahin for a heartfelt conversation about Shadetree Inn, its family legacy, and the unique beauty of St. Francisville. Alex, editor of 64 Parishes magazine and author of Classic Restaurants of New Orleans, brings a deep love of Louisiana’s culture, history, and storytelling. Her husband, Sam, is a talented drummer and composer who performs with numerous bands, most notably the popular New Orleans band Naughty Professor. Together, they share memories of Shadetree, hopes for its future, and the sense of warmth, hospitality, and community that has made it such a special part of St. Francisville for generations. A wonderful conversation about family, creativity, home, and carrying a beloved legacy forward.
