I think this might be my favourite episode of #whatyvonnedidnext

I got quite emotional actually seeing all of these laid out like this. If anyone had told me a few years ago that this would be my life, I’d not have believed them.

Proof that following the breadcrumbs of your delight really can lead to the most wonderful places.

If you’re in Northern Ireland I’m hoping you’ll drop by and say hi when the time comes.

Now I need to get busy with some framing and hoping that my brilliant framer is able to turn things around quickly and isn’t shut for two weeks for the 12th holidays šŸ¤žšŸ» by @thisisyvonnemoore

Thanks to Kirsty King for writing such a lovely piece for today’s edition of @theirishnews

I’ve been out and about all day today. Just managed to grab the last copy of this in my local Spar this evening!

Thanks for all of your kindness and support on yesterday’s post. It seems I’m far from alone in what I’m experiencing just now.

Getting out and about today in a very intentional way perked me up no end, and to come home to this was an added bonus. Tomorrow I’ll share what I got up to today and how and why it helped.

Tonight it’s more of my soup which is a @robhobsonnutritionist immune boosting recipe that I return to again and again. If you fancy a link to it let me know. After soup it’s a couple of episodes of Sullivans Crossing and then bed.

I hope you’ve had a reasonable start to your week.

I wasn’t expecting to be in print twice in one week.

Life can be like that sometimes can’t it?

Like there’s not a lot happening and then suddenly there’s a flurry of activity.

That’s why trust has become so important to me.
Trusting the process,
Trusting myself,
Trusting life to show up with what I need without my having to cling or to grasp or to demand that it comes in a shape and on a timeline of my choosing.

@goleormagazine is a beautiful independent Irish Arts magazine created by Aidan McGrath.

Aidan is particularly skilled in translating a spoken interview into a written form that captures the essence of a person exquisitely. At least that’s how I feel. When I first read his written piece, it took my breath away.

You can read my interview and the entire magazine for free. Though if you feel called to, purchasing a printed copy will help to support Aidan and his ongoing endeavours.

It was a day in high summer.

The sky was the sort of blue that reminds you that life is worth living.

I had this canvas that had a failed painting on it.
Something I’d been experimenting with that hadn’t worked out and I’d smeared the wet paint all over it and let it dry and relegated it to a corner of my studio.

Something prompted me to bring it out into the light, under the warm gaze of the sun and its life-force.

I laid it on a sheet on the ground and dripped paint onto it from on high, watching it bounce and splatter and do its own thing. I wondered what would happen if I lifted the canvas up and let it fall with the same level of playful curiosity. And so I did. And I watched the paint bounce off the canvas and fall back again, creating more shapes and patterns of the kind that can only happen when you let go and trust.

l’ve come to believe that life is like that too. That playfulness and trust and curiosity can lead us to the most unexpectedly beautiful people and places.

I shared some photos on LinkedIn and asked people to name it. Someone said ā€˜Never Mind the Pollocks’ and I couldn’t help but smile.

Adding and subtracting on this 12ā€ x 12ā€ piece that I’ve been playing with on and off over the past week or so. Acrylic, collage, oil pastel and lots of fun…

Here I’m scraping through some paint to the oil pastel below and through to more of the layers of paint that are underneath the pastel.

Just like people, my favourite paintings are multi-layered and rather curious. Often full of contrast and contradiction, imperfections and parts that refuse to be tidied up.

Boots and scarves are why I love Autumn. Though by December I’ve usually had enough of feeling cold. Then my chilblains usually arrive on my fingers and swearing at the cold becomes the norm.

Anyhoo… for now all is well and I’m still enchanted with the special sunsets and the delicious deciduous debris on the ground.

The canvas is me...

These pages in my sketchbook always start as a way of using up leftover paint from my palette.

Then I might add pencil marks, pastels, and maybe some daubs of other paint colours.

There is no plan, or brief to fulfil.

No expectations, or rules.

That freedom can be difficult sometimes to hold on to when it comes to a canvas, especially a large one.

The stakes seem higher.

And yet without that freedom, what arises on the canvas can miss capturing the spontaneity and aliveness that emerge in its presence.

It’s an exercise in trust, surrender and letting go.

I don’t always get it right.

That’s why many of my canvases have a hidden underpainting. In fact I’m here today totally painting over an earlier painting.

One that felt somewhat lifeless and overly contrived and was begging to be set free.
Ironically, that’s exactly how I used to feel, before I discovered painting.

Perhaps that’s why I’m able to ā€˜hear’ and ā€˜feel’ the canvas so intuitively.

The canvas is me.

Have you discovered something late in life that makes you feel alive in a way you’ve never known before, or perhaps only felt in your childhood?

It started with a dm over on LinkedIn back in April.

@philippzuend reached out to me after having seen one of my posts that resonated with him.

We set up a call.

Family stuff got in the way here and I postponed.
Our first call didn’t in fact take place until June.

It turned out to be one of those calls that takes on a life of its own. You know the ones. Where you know you’re in the presence of a kindred soul and you both recognise each in the other, in so many ways.

Fast forward and here I am preparing to travel to Liechtenstein to participate in an art residency and exhibition.

Philipp is creating something which aligns so deeply with everything I hold dear.

Capturing the essence of the artist - their ā€˜why’, their story - and translating it into a print made the analogue way, using a letterpress.

If you happen to be in London tomorrow evening, there are a couple of spots left for the unveiling of the A.i.R Proof session and print he’s created with @carol.wyss

I’ll pop all the links in my stories.
Including to my session on 1st November and the exhibition which runs from 4th to 7th November. If you know anyone who might be interested in attending, do let them know.

I’m off out to run all the errands I couldn’t be assed to do yesterday bc I was not in the mood for peopling. Didn’t get out of my comfies all day. That’s how I roll. With the punches. Yin and yang. Some days I slob about in hand-me-down trackies covered in paint and other days I think I’m a fashion stylist.

Anyways… have a great Friday.

I was waiting on some perfect moment to write some perfect introductory piece over on Substack.

That moment didn’t arrive so I wrote this instead, on a day that felt more flat, than fandango.

I hope my exquisite joy in putting together ā€˜painting parcels’ never wanes. I still pinch myself knowing that my art is in homes all over the world. Only a few short years ago I’d have said you were mad if you told me this would happen.
