What a week! From the shake out on Thursday to the race, cheer zone, and after party on Saturday, it was one for the history books. It was my first ever time volunteering at a race and from the first runner to the last, I loved every single minute of it. There was a moment where I turned around to look back and there was not a space to be had on the platform and Boxcar and it was at least 3 deep. Incredible.Special shout out to everyone who helped out at the water station and cheer zone, so very appreciative. You all smashed it.This really felt like a culmination of everything we’ve been working towards with TGRC and O&B when it comes to community and trying to do things a bit differently. So very proud.Roll on next year when the full marathon returns. Don’t sleep. Get involved. It’s going to be absolutely massive.@abdnmarathon @outandbackstore [first photo by my mate @byvndy] by @thomaslindie

Some moments from a good day in Deeside.Super stoked to see my mate @eryninglis open the incredible space that is @yolkgeneralstore at Milton of Crathes. A nod to @_p_o_l_k_a_ for their top work as always too.Within view of the front door of YOLK is @maisoncastanie, another new spot that is well worth a visit, even if it is just for a coffee and a fine piece. After a detour to Glen Tanar for a race route recce, we stopped in by the newly opened @kite.dinnet for pizza. How lucky are we to have places like this within an hours drive of the city? Products of people who have the vision and desire to do things a little differently. Places that you’d add to your to-do list if you were visiting a city on the continent, so why not take that same initiative on a local level? These are the spaces that we should be making the effort to support or they simply won’t exist.@yolkgeneralstore@maisoncastanie@kite.dinnet (Remember to also give them some grace as they are still figuring it all out) by @thomaslindie

London for the marathon with a 9 month old. Had the fear. Wasn’t that bad. Forever thankful for that travel buggy. A baby in a chest carrier and a backpack with a camera whilst marathon spectating and navigating the underground was no joke but we figured it out. All the props to @emmaalindie for sending a marathon 9 months postpartum, forever in awe of you. Same again next year? by @thomaslindie

Lairig Ghru Race - 16th - 3:48:13A cracking day to run from Braemar to Aviemore! In 2024, to celebrate a year of running, this was my first ever race and I finished 80th in 4:46:55. Last year, I ran it again finishing 27th in 4:00:22 achieving a 46 minute PB. Disappointed to miss out on the sub-4, back I came, secured the sub-4 and a 12 minute PB, nearly an hour faster than when I ran it 2 years ago.I absolutely love tracking and seeing progress and have been treating it as a bit of a benchmark race, but mainly, I just love this shit. Maybe next year I’ll train specifically for it.As always, shout out to all those who make the race happen and everyone who smashed it out there. Also to my mum and dad for carting me about, and a special mention to Emma who left a wedding near Galashiels at 12:30am, arriving home after 3:30am so that I could toe the line today. It takes a village. by @thomaslindie

It felt like Ben Rinnes was the windiest place in Scotland on Sunday as I took on the Aberlour Skyline route for the very first time.Starting at the square in Aberlour, the route climbs up the road before it turns off onto forestry tracks which soon become single track as you climb over Little Conval before descending and ascending Meikle Conval. From there, you have a very short lived nice descent before a steep drop down to the car park at Ben Rinnes.A steep pull up Ben Rinnes to be greeted by the most impressive trig and extensive views across Moray and beyond. Heading west and taking in all of the Corbett’s granite tors, you’re faced with some bog navigating before you end up on some nice trails towards distillery one of two, a road section to the second, and then a lovely river trail beyond Linn Falls and back into Aberlour.24.7km | 1210mBelter route. Will do again. by @thomaslindie

🥈 Kirkhill 8 - 82.96km - 1831mMy first timed race and man was it a tough day at the office. After around 3 hours in (5 loops), the DNF voices in my head were the loudest they’ve ever been and honestly, I was mentally and physically checked out. A pretty tough battle when you’re looking at another 5 hours out on course. Spent a couple loops trying to decide if I was ok with it, loop 6 was 10 minutes behind my intended goal time and then loop 7 was 20 minutes behind. I had the DNF Strava caption written and everything. Thankfully, with the support of my selfless mates and incredibly supportive wife, I managed to find something, get my mind under control, pick the pace back up and finish strong. The wobble in the middle meant that I was a loop behind Kyle in 1st place but hopefully my efforts to get back at him kept him pushing until the very end. Congrats to him on a great run and absolutely smashing the course record. As always, shout out to the team at CGM, all the volunteers, and everyone else who smashed it on the day. Support your local races.#outandbackstore #kirkhill8 #ultrarunning by @thomaslindie

From London for the marathon, to Arizona for Cocodona, and to Spain for Zegama, these last few weeks have been an absolute blur. Hard to believe this is part of life now. Grateful for it all.I have so many thoughts and feelings that I want to share and recap, but it feels like I’m still trying to process it all.More soon.In the meantime, being present at home with Emma and the boys is the focus, but life doesn’t slow down, and I have my first timed race this weekend. Can’t wait. by @thomaslindie

🥈 D33 Ultra - 3:43:37A 33 mile out and back from Duthie Park to Banchory. Lead from the start line and for over 50k until I was overtaken with around 1.5k to go, finishing a minute behind the leader and picking up second place. It’s been a turbulent couple of weeks battling with an injury that was most likely sustained from not recovering well enough after Fetteresso Forest Marathon but I done everything I could to get in a position to be able to tow the start line and see what happens.I gave it absolutely everything I had on the day, and although a first place slipped away at the death, I’m super proud of my race.Very thankful for my usual support crew and everyone else who was at the start, on course, and at the finish. A special shout out to those who make the race happen too; CGM, marshalls, medics, volunteers etc.Running is great when everything is going well but incredibly difficult when you’re wrestling with the physical and mental challenges that come with battling injury. Although it wasn’t anything too serious, and is something I’ll manage and get back to 100%, I definitely have a new found appreciation for all those who are dealing with that but there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.#outandbackstore #d33ultramarathon #ultrarunning by @thomaslindie

Fetteresso Forest Marathon3rd place - 3:06:05 🥉One week removed from my first race of the year and I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting over the last week. It usually involves asking myself whether I could have pushed a bit harder here, done a certain section a bit differently, or did I take enough gels, water, and electrolytes, and so on. You know what I’m talking about. I’m my own worst critic. However, this race was different and for the very first time, I look back with only positive feelings. I am super proud of how I ran. My most accomplished race to date. I raced hard, made a move that stuck, and kept pushing until the finish line. This is also my justification as to why you’ll see a picture in there of me celebrating a 3rd place, ha!Great to race with lots of familiar faces and share the podium with @caiden_th.m, and @trstraining who both smashed it. Thanks as always to those involved in putting on the race, the marshals and volunteers for being out there in the cold, to my mate @jaydenlarkins_ for coming by to support (and babysit), and to @emmaalindie for the never ending belief.Next up, D33. We go again in 4 weeks. 👊🏻-Thanks to @photographybymarissa_ for the last photo.#running #trailrunning #ultrarunning #outandbackstore by @thomaslindie
