The sanctity of life. The weight of justice. How could something as objective as humanity become subjective? People refute this with convincing arguments, making it far more challenging. The fear, alertness, paranoia and heavy judgement women must carry is pressing.

Cassie was truly a martyr for a cause. She carried a unique charm/wit with an unshakeable confidence. But she had such deep pain and anger with nowhere to go. There were moments of weakness she felt from carrying that weight alone, and she needed support. 𝗪𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐮𝐬 𝐬𝐨 𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐬?

What is most unnerving is that if she hadn’t gone to the lengths that she did – justice would not have prevailed. 𝗪𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐈 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐨 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞? What was judged as naivete was a human so connected to her values, she refused to compromise on them. 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐲, 𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥? As the film depicts, it’s more than one perpetrator – there is a whole dangerous microcosm protecting the knot.

People all inherently like to believe they are good, but as Cassie proves, someone would rather be shot than shown they are not. WHY? If we look in the mirror and see we are not good, is that the end? Does repentance ever become complete, is forgiveness tangible, or is numbing the only antidote?

As the world moves on, you’re supposed to move alongside with it but what if those timelines don’t coincide. 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭?

Only when something is humanised, and consequences directly impact them, are people able to truly empathise. 𝐈𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐞? The world is a place where a woman is so unsafe. 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞?

This film is a true piece of art that has shaken me deeply. The plot, screenplay, every detail carefully created. Truly one of the best I've seen.

I discovered this film this year and I must say it quickly became one of my favourites. I don’t say that lightly. I made my friends watch it too so they could not only feel the magic but also so we could discuss.

It is deeply clever and intricately complex yet grounded in the raw humanity of layered characters and storytelling. A story that stretches far beyond cheating/betrayal, rather a nuanced exploration of how emotions affect us and the way we act. Spoiler alert: it’s not always rational. It is very easy to judge the characters and argue who was more worse than the other. Each time you watch it I find your opinion changes. Also, I had to think in doing that I am missing the point.

The interconnectedness of the character’s lives that takes shape was a very surprising and interesting shift. In particular, how the characters change when encountering the others, from showing a more upright honesty or disconcerting arrogance or even conceited vulnerability. There was not a pause from the tension, in a good way. Life can be life that, one tense moment after another. Even in the highs.

The title in and of itself is an interesting one. In a world where we are trying to connect with one another, can we really trust the other version being presented is real. Are we getting closer or is it all an illusion to the inherit loneliness we feel? Surely relationships stand for more than being mirrors to one another. Even when we are being vulnerable and you honour your feelings, is it honest? It seems obvious but that is not always true. And hence relationships can form to become a distraction, albeit sometimes painful, to numb it.

There is no clear-cut lesson or moral high ground in the movie, a testament to life perhaps. Just leaving you with a lot of thoughts, feelings and questioning…

As today marks 15th July, this post felt called to come. I’m not sure if I have the words to share the impact this masterpiece had on me but I’m going to try. And yes the score is on repeat in the background still giving me chills.

In the words of Emma herself, “Imagine one selected day struck out of your life [when my sister insisted I watch this show] and think how different its course would have been.”

I don’t say this lightly… I felt incredibly seen. I saw myself in both Emma and Dexter as well as being able to see two beautifully complex humans navigate life with wonder and insecurities. How each day, each year brought new layers of challenges but also a deepening of a love so profound from the moment of its inception (even if you didn’t realise till later). In a world that feels more lonely as I continue to grow, to have a constant is truly special. A source of comfort, a place to vent frustrations, a combined admiration and respect, a relationship of mutual vulnerability and unwavering authenticity, a reminder of stillness and the small moments and a beacon of light and love. This is what Dex and Em’s bond symbolises to me.

But with that they were their own people too, who’s mirrors were distorted with their personal dreams and fears. And while throughout it all I was mesmerised with the beauty of it all and the integrity they held of their feelings and reality, I found myself not doing the same when it came to me.

In March I came back to coaching and when looking at what to explore, @she_writes_herstory and I’s love of ‘One Day’ gave me the strong yet heartfelt foundation I needed to go deeper within. This is more than a show for me, you see it is a powerful reflection of life and Dexter and Emma represent a part of my psyche. One question: “What do Dexter and Emma represent about my own shadows and deepest fears?”. A 25 page presentation later with character and scene analysis developed into my own thoughts… a profound awakening (more on this later).

So on St Swithin’s Day today in London it rains the most heavy rainfall but with one day more of this beautifully messy thing called life, maybe a summer of rain is not so bad…

An idea that come to me Sunday night in the shower.

Emotions aren’t always easily defined. They’re messy, confusing, humiliating, complex, ugly but always beautiful.

Hello there! An unexpected pop in from me.

This year has been so new for me. I find myself in places I’ve never been before and some I’m deeply acquainted with. I can’t think of the word to say what this has been to navigate.

I’ve been finding a flow with my new job, went on an amazing family vacation and more recently experiencing a kind of mellow.

Amidst that also has brought moments of questioning, confusion and sadness. Poetry has been helping me a lot find my voice when I don’t know how to feel.

After writing the third poem you’ll see 2 hours ago, I felt called to share some poetry I’ve written at different points this year.

I’ve also shared in the next part of this theme from a year later about the movies/TV I’ve watched that has moved me deeply and sparked so much thinking.

I’ve missed you all and the connection we share.

It’s been a hard couple of years. I think we both know what we mean by that. I’ve really learnt and continue to learn how to love you. How to care for you. How to accept you for all that you are. ⁣

I’m complex. And this story of ours is full of emotion. You have soft heart. A rich perspective. A pure soul. You feel everything so deeply. ⁣

It’s been a really journey of learning this is our superpower not a weakness. ⁣

Looking in the mirror at the guy with the connected beard and hair he can’t figure out how to style. I see the dreamer. I see the heartache. I forget sometimes the little boy is within. Just like remembering my parents had a life before mine feels like a distant mystery, it’s so easy to forget sometimes that I all that past versions of myself live in my heart, in my being. ⁣

I always wonder would he be proud. If the boy in this picture would smile if he saw me today. ⁣

Hey! We haven’t met yet but I really look forward to when we do, whenever that will be…⁣

I want to make new connections in my life, not settle for breadcrumbs. I feel myself being pulled to a shift to a new season, a new experience of connection. ⁣
⁣
I want to connect where I feel…⁣
- - challenged and accepted ⁣
- - adventurous and comfortable ⁣
- - vulnerable and safe ⁣
- - expressive and appreciated⁣
- - boundless and protected ⁣

One such connection I’ve created recently is meeting @danielfresco. What began as a nervous hello, led to a spiritual exchange. In such a small time getting to know each other, he has shared and given so much soul, time and lessons. One of the many aha moments he shared: ⁣

I’m hoping to put myself in new environments and spaces to cultivate this because connection is truly something I value dearly in my life. I’m also excited to experience connection in entirely different ways. ⁣

I think in life there are connections and then there are soul connections. They hit on a deeper level, a part of your body that takes a special touch. ⁣
⁣
My family, my friends and also my mentors and my inspirations. I find myself incredibly blessed to have had and have great mentors I can go to for guidance and to be seen from a perspective so true. I truly believe that the power of mentorship has changed my life, given me the necessary comfort, healing, thoughts and perspective to find the strength and courage to navigate my mind, my heart and my life. ⁣
⁣
It helped me see my vulnerability as my most beautiful strength. ⁣
⁣
And my inspirations. Those who I haven’t met in person but have touched me so deeply. An energy that felt so connected, a long lost friend. When we met in the movie that showed me a human love story. When I listened to the aha moments you had in your journey in a interview. The picture that truly spoke a thousand words. The blog post that made my social media so enriching. The song that told a story so true. ⁣
⁣
There’s a difference between your circle and your soul tribe. ⁣
⁣
Sometimes I don’t understand the meaning of my life. But in the presence of the latter, I feel meaning. And that in itself keeps me warm. ⁣
