A little look back at Omamori (Japanese lucky charm) making workshop 🧵🇯🇵 @threading_stories_collective

It was lovely seeing everyone create their own special charms, choosing colours, fabrics and decorations and adding their own personal wishes. 💕✨

Omamori are traditionally carried for protection, good luck, health, happiness and other personal wishes.

We will have activities for all ages using simple stitches and textiles, and we hope that you will add your own voice to our version of a Quipu – an ancient Andean method of recording important information through a universal knotted language.

Drop in, no registration necessary.
Open to all ages. Children must be supervised by a responsible adult.

Continuation of the ongoing collaboration between Tenement House and @threading_stories_collective

Every room of the Tenement House has its own tapestry with an outline of the room and motifs from the room embroidered on it. All that's left to do now is attaching the patches and finishing of the backings. by @threading_stories_collective

Continuation of the @threading_stories_collective and The Tenement House collaboration.

In this stage of the project members of our group and also participants of a few workshops Julita and Alejandra ran for members of the public got to create small textile replicas of their favourites from miss Towards's collections. Every single piece sewn is so special as everyone worked very hard, even if it was their first time ever trying their hand at embroidery.

The Tenement House is a place where care is very apparent, care for the collections and the history they carry. And then there is the great care and joy that these teeny tiny embroideries were made with.

This ongoing collaboration is very special, and I would recommend to everyone to visit The Tenement House and keep their eyes peeled on what's next to come on this journey. by @threading_stories_collective

Hiya,

Here are some photos from the very beginning of the collaboration between @threading_stories_collective and The Tenement House.

I'm so new to making reels, I don't even know how to add subtitles, but I'll learn, I swear.

We had the chance to explore the in-house spaces as well as some archival materials from miss Toward's collection and as Threading Stories is a migrant creative collective that very often works with textiles, I started to develop a few embroidery samples of where our collaboration could go.

The first sample is a replica of my grandmother's room with her favourite armchair, and the second is a tea pot from my own collections.

This collaboration is still ongoing. Stay tuned to see where we are headed! by @threading_stories_collective
