- Glendale Galleria, perspective study with @melpetersart .Got one face the wrong color!

Re-entry is rough. Processing everything pushed onto the stack while I was gone. Very little time for art.

I could have floated around the planet forever. But Bologna has really stayed with me.

B. John the Baptist, in his Baptistry. Standup sketch
C. Abduction of Sabine Woman. Difficulty: 10/10. Standup sketch
D. St James the Lesser (St James the Greater is in Orvieto Cathedral, family resemblance!). Standup sketch. Painted at a Cafe.
E. Uffizi gallery, standup sketch, painted at a Cafe.

At this point I've used up half the ink in this ballpoint pen!! by @threadsbyteri

...today in Firenze

a. #PinkFloyd and Jim Croce, #PonteVecchia. The buskers do know their Boomer audience. When the old white guy leaves singing your song, you're doing it right. 1.6mm ballpoint. Sketched standing up. Paint later. "So you think you can tell heaven from hell, blue skies from pain, Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell?"

b. Piazzale degli Uffizi. Beautiful reflection in the river. See if I can make it work later when I paint it.

c. Borgo San Jacopo. Sketching people sitting under statues is amusing to me. by @threadsbyteri

a. Con Te Partiro, street violinist. Paint in studio.

b. Duomo di Modena / Palazzo Comunale. Bottom pane - Facade in bright sun this morning so dammit gonna try again, with the new 1.2mm pen so detail is not possible. OK! Top pane is the 180deg view (Sepia pen, Grey Pen). New 4 x 8 book but the lady lied and said it was not dotted or lined paper. by @threadsbyteri

...today in Modena

a. Duomo di Modena. Sketch is good, the paint is ? Feel like I'm losing the recipe again. Too small brush for the sky. The rollercoaster of art! Ballpoint/watercolor 100pct #pleinair. Fabriano Carnet du Voyage. This church is UNESCO, very ancient/primitive inside, wow.

b. Last breakfast at Roxy Bar, Bologna. Good sketch, not sure if contrast will fix the paint. Fabriano A5 120g

c. View from lunch at Latteria #21, Modena. The food in Modena is next level and I already thought Bologna was. Town full of ultra rich, it looks like a fashion shoot everywhere.

d. Roxy bar. Quick one before I tackled the Torri again.

e. There are so many rendering errors in this sketch, the geometry is extremely complicated, plus all the walls are leaning different angles. Might have some interesting light on it in the morning? May or may not paint. Last foto is at .6 zoom so it's all skewed. by @threadsbyteri

...today in #Bologna

a. Last sunset at #BarVittorioEmanuele. I will miss my outdoor studio and my daily Campari Spritz and the bar shutdown at 9pm. 0.2 Micron, watercolor. Fabriano Carnet du Voyage. 100pct #PleinAir.

b. Via Rizzoli. The scale is way off (I really did try) but look at the most ornate lamp post in the universe! 1.6mm ballpoint standing up, in the middle of the sidewalk. Painted at my studio bar.

c. Tabacchi. Perfectly ornate - any more would be excessive - this smallish sign is at another corner of the same building that has the lion lamppost. The dove is not iron, but carbon-based. 😂 Ballpoint sketch standing up in the middle of the sidewalk. No one bats an eye. Italians are the least neurotic people ever.

... yesterday in #CarValley (Modena IT)

P.s. I canNOT respect paddle shift.

I joined some diehard car fanatics for a tour of Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Pagani #supercar factories/ateliers in #Modena, IT. These brief visits can only whet one's appetite, and the one location (maybe) worth the price of this tour was the Ferrari museum - check out the 2nd to last slide - didn't have time to sketch this. 😭 I did pick out the color of my Ferrari tho (metallic greige)...

a. Pagani Zonda. Even among Italians this guy is nuts. I do love a crazy wing. 1.6mm ballpoint, sketch standing up, paint in studio

b. #Ferrari F80 (2024) and 458 Speciale A (2014). Drew the F80 cuz the door was open/up, love it. Not a single straight line or right angle on any of these supercars. The seating position is unbelievably low to the ground. Ballpoint standing up, paint later

c. #Lamborghini 2014 Veneno, front and rear views. Love that wacky wing. Ballpoint standing up, paint later

...yesterday and today in Balogna/Ravenna

a. Il due Torre, from Roxy Bar. Paint in studio. (Yesterday)
b. Piazza Maggiore, night. And a Campari Spritz for @notyourjlo . Almost pure plein air! Painted the first half in the dark, had to touch it up
c. What's the Latest - street scene in Ravenna. That ticket app is insane btw. 1mm grey Micron, 0.2mm black Micron. Pure plein air !!
d. 20 min sketch while waiting for restaurant to open. Paint in studio
e. Vespa corner. Forgot to paint the Vespa. Experimental color (in studio). Probably unfinished. From 2 days ago
f. Basilica di San Vitale, Ravenna. Absolutely incredible mosaic work inside from floor to ceiling spanning multiple centuries. Ready for paint. by @threadsbyteri

...today in Bologna I met up with @purpinka one of the #uskbologna admins who turned me on to some hidden treasures!!

a. Palazzo Della Mercanzia. 1.6mm ballpoint, watercolor. I am struggling to map views to just warm/cool greys. Maybe pick something not backlit next time. #pleinair, touched up in studio
b. Ducati Superleggera V4 Centenario on display at Bibiloteca Salaborsa. This thing is 1/10 the weight of my WRX with 85pct of the horsepower!! Mileage not listed, if you have to ask, you're the wrong customer. Also don't miss the Roman ruins on the bottom floor of the Bibliotheca. Fude Sailor, painted at Bar Vittorio Emanuele next door.
c. Arca di San Domenico. This shrine is definitely worth seeing. Going back to try to ID the Michelangelo statuary. 15 min sketch. Ballpoint pen. Unfinished

Some touristy things are like that for a reason. #barvittorioemanuele is a spectacular view & vibe on the Piazza. (Thank you @livvychen for the intel!) And they let me paint there for 2 hours. Yes it will take almost 30m for the waiter to get to you.
