We talk a lot about the books we love around here…but not enough about what reading itself gives us. 📚

For me, reading has always been more than a hobby.

I was a lonely kid, and books became my friends. Reading became my favorite form of escapism, a place where I could disappear into someone else’s world for a little while.

As I got older, books became something different. They became one of the ways I care for my mental health.

As an introvert, there’s something I genuinely look forward to about being completely alone with a book. No conversations to keep up with. No expectations. No demands.

Just me, a book, and permission to unplug for a while.

Reading recharges me. It gives my brain somewhere else to go and gives me space to come back to myself.

Maybe that’s why I’ll always be a reader. 📖

September Wrap-Up 📚💍🌻

This month, the books are not the main character.

There wasn’t much reading happening because somewhere between life, wedding planning, and September flying by, we got married on 09•26•26. 🤍

And somehow, I got to experience a wedding more beautiful and meaningful than anything I had ever imagined for myself.

There was a point in my life when I wasn’t even sure I’d meet someone I would want to spend forever with. And then there was him.

I felt incredibly loved by our family and friends that day, but most importantly, I felt so loved by him.

Every detail told a little piece of our story. 🌹 Roses representing his family. 🌻 Sunflowers honoring my loved ones in heaven. 👢 Trading my heels for red cowboy boots because something red felt much more me than something blue.

And having some of our favorite people celebrate with us in one of our favorite places: El Valle de Guadalupe, Ensenada, México. 🇲🇽

So this month’s wrap-up has fewer books and a lot more wedding photos.

Hope you don’t mind me letting the books take the supporting role this time. 🥹🤍

September, you were one for the books, just not because of the books. 💍📚

P.S. The audio is our wedding song because sometimes a trending sound just doesn’t tell the whole story.

I’m a first-gen Mexican-American, bilingual therapist by day and professional fictional-red-flag investigator by night. 😂 I’m an introverted homebody who would almost always rather be reading, talking about books, or convincing someone to add just one more thriller to their TBR.

What a perfect way to close out Hispanic Heritage Month with a Nightworms subscription celebrating Latinx authors! Leopoldo and Cynthia are two of my absolute favorites, so I was thrilled to receive their books this month.

Sorry I didn’t text back. I was working.

And by working I mean I had 100 pages left, everyone was suspicious, someone was definitely lying, and I simply could not be expected to socialize under those conditions. 😂📚

Being a thriller reader is basically a second job. No pay. Questionable hours. Constant emotional distress. And somehow I keep showing up for my shift.

What a WILD ride, and one I could NOT get off! 🔪📖

Listen, I get it. In this economy, sometimes we need a side hustle. But this influencer? She was out here delivering CORPSES for extra cash. 💀 And things take a nightmarish turn when one of them comes back to LIFE. Like, EXCUSE ME?!

But somehow, this book felt personal.

Beyond Chuck’s usual brilliant storytelling and twisted plot, he managed to weave in themes of grief and motherhood in a way that felt surprisingly emotional and deeply human. And honestly? I loved how seamlessly he brought it all together.

I’ve been loving everything I’ve read by Chuck so far, and this one is NO exception!

Two recent reads. Two VERY different ways to make me question what the hell I just read.

🩸 Maria the Wanted: Villainous. Chaotic. Action-packed. Basically, Maria chose violence and I happily followed along. This one moves FAST and was such a fun ride.

Different vibes. Same verdict: put them on the TBR.

🌲 An Immaculate Conception: Come into the creepy gothic woods…nothing weird will happen. Promise. 👀 This one pulled me in with its eerie atmosphere and then hit me with an ending I genuinely wasn’t expecting.
