One leadership lesson I’ve had to learn the hard way is finding the balance between living in my current reality and pursuing my vision.

As a person of faith, I am naturally future-oriented. I try to think ahead, see what is possible and position myself for the future. However, I sometimes find myself tempted to detach from my current reality because of where I believe I am going.

As leaders, one way we scale our efforts and organisations is by intentionally raising other leaders—creating opportunities for them to grow, take responsibility and lead—so that we can focus on more strategic work.

My frustration was that, because of my dream, I tended to overestimate people. I saw the leader they could become, even when they had not yet fully seen that potential in themselves. As a result, I held them accountable for a capacity they had not yet developed. I was living more in the idea than in the reality.

Growth and success come from having clear goals rooted in a compelling vision and knowing exactly what needs to be done to achieve them. But we must also be honest about where we are, the capacity of our teams and the resources available to us.

We can only take our next steps from where we are—not from where we imagine we are.

Now, I’m learning to “bi-locate”: to remain grounded in my current reality while staying connected to my vision, and to gradually close the gap with clarity and intention.

Faith sees the future, but never denies the facts.

Leaders must continue to see the future, but never deny their current reality.

If Nigeria is to experience real change, we must deliberately cultivate leaders, entrepreneurs and producers.

This is not primarily a political issue but a leadership one. Many of our problems persist because too few people are willing and capacitated to take responsibility, solve problems, build institutions and create value for others.

Leadership is not limited to political office. It is the willingness to confront problems, serve others, create where others complain and build where others merely consume. We must nurture this spirit in our homes, schools, workplaces, religious institutions and communities.

Nigeria’s population is growing faster than the economy’s capacity to generate sufficient income and opportunities. To close that gap, we need more than consumers of limited resources; we need entrepreneurs, producers, innovators and problem-solvers who can expand economic activity and create opportunities for others.

Our schools must do more than prepare young people to pass examinations or compete for scarce jobs. They must develop initiative, discipline, creativity, courage and the capacity to lead. Religious institutions must raise people who do not only pray for change but are prepared to become instruments of it.

Government must create an environment where entrepreneurs can start, survive, employ people and scale. But no government can build a great nation alone. Transformation occurs when citizens develop the character and capacity to take responsibility for their communities and future.

A young and growing population can become a tremendous economic advantage when guided by vision, discipline, enterprise and responsible leadership. Nigeria’s future depends not only on how many people we have, but on the quality of leaders, producers, creators and problem-solvers we cultivate.

Leaders must arise.

Execution is what separates potential from progress.

At Thrive100 2026: Passion 2 Profit, Mr Dami Oguntunde @damioguntunde shared practical insights on presenting value and challenged participants with a powerful reminder:

"Ideas are great in writing, but they are better in motion."

Thank you to Thrive Network @thrivenetng for creating a platform that brings together ambitious minds to learn, connect, and grow. Conversations like these are instrumental in shaping professionals and entrepreneurs who are ready to create lasting impact.

At Harde Business School, we remain committed to bridging the gap between knowledge and execution—because real transformation begins when ideas are put into action.

Some conversations stay with you.

@iamjoycedaniels’ session on Saturday was one of them. She didn’t just speak; she opened up. She shared her journey of leaving a paying job for the unknown, and she named it for what it was: hard, scary, and worth it.

She said passion is suffering. Not to scare us. To prepare us.

That moment hit different.

If you were there, you know. If you weren’t, you can still catch it head to Ladele John’s YouTube channel and watch the full session.

#EXECUTION: Ideas Are Better In Motion

Ideas are exciting.
When an idea hits you, it bubbles. You want to talk about it, write it, share it.

But here’s the truth: Ideas are not loyal.
While an idea is courting you, it’s also courting 100 other people.

The only person the idea commits to is the one who executes.

You can keep an idea in your head, journal, or slides for 2 years and nothing happens.
Someone else can take the same idea for 2 weeks, execute, and win.

Validation won’t make the idea better.
Approval doesn’t move the needle.
The market only rewards what you actually do.

So be EXECUTION-BIASED.
Stop waiting for 5 confirmations and 10 convictions.
Get to the field. Test it. Sell it. Learn from it.

Ideas are great in writing.
But they only work when they’re in motion.

Execution is what separates talkers from champions.

Oluwatodimu Oni stepped up and told us something we don’t hear enough:

Know your risk appetite before you take the leap.

Not everyone is built for the same kind of risk, and that’s not a weakness, that’s wisdom.

She walked us through knowing ourselves first, then our money. Because financial freedom isn’t about taking every chance; it’s about taking the right ones for you.

That’s the kind of conversation that stays with you long after the session ends.

And we’re only halfway through.

More to come.

We just sat with Dami Oguntunde, and he said something that’s still sitting with us:

“Ideas are promiscuous. They go anywhere. The only thing that controls them is the one who executes.”

Powerful, right? Because ideas truly don’t belong to anyone — they float, they land, they leave. What makes them yours isn’t thinking about them. It’s doing something with them.

That was just the first session.

And trust us — there’s still so much more to come. More voices. More moments. More reasons to stay glued to this room.

Thrive 100 is only getting started.
