YOU ARE NOT ALONE: Today marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and I want to share something personal. I lost my mom to breast cancer when I was 23, and since then, I’ve known far too many family members and friends who have faced it.

Yes TtW is about watches, but more importantly, it’s about people. Breast cancer affects women and men, and every diagnosis profoundly impacts their families, friends, and loved ones.

To those living with breast cancer, those who have come through it, those we’ve lost, and everyone supporting them, know this. You are not alone. The American Cancer Society and Susan G. Komen are two organizations that offer guidance and support for patients, families, and caregivers. Many other resources are available if you need a helping hand, a listening ear, or the reassurance that comes from connecting with others who have experienced breast cancer or are going through it now.

Remembering those we miss and standing and cheering for everyone living through it. 💗 by @throughthewatch

Much like music and food, there’s something uniquely universal about TIME.

Different countries. Different languages. Different cultures.

Yet somehow a mechanical watch can create a common language between people who might otherwise never have crossed paths. This one certainly did.

A watch created by Russian watchmaker @chutovwatch eventually found its way to Singapore and into the collection of @WristedandWasted. And now, after what felt at times like the universe was actively testing how badly we wanted this transaction to happen, it has made its way halfway around the world to my wrist in Florida.

Along the way, something more meaningful happened.

I got to know the person on the other side of the transaction.

What began as buying a watch became conversations, shared enthusiasm, mutual trust and the beginnings of a friendship with another member of this wonderfully strange global watch community.

And that, increasingly, is what this hobby means to me.

I love the watches. The craftsmanship. The creativity. The mechanics. The stories behind how they are made.

But ultimately, it’s about the people.

A Russian watchmaker. A collector in Singapore. A collector in Florida. All connected by a tiny mechanical object dedicated to measuring the one thing every one of us shares:

Time.

The watch finally arrived and exceeded my expectations on the wrist.

But the best thing it brought with it wasn’t in the box.

It was another connection across the world.

Come for the watches. Stay for the people. by @throughthewatch

It’s been about a month since I returned from Germany, where I had the privilege of visiting independent watchmakers across Berlin, Glashütte, Dresden, and Kalbe.

As I’ve reflected on the trip, one memory keeps coming back. Nearly everywhere I went, the conversation eventually turned to the same two people.

“Be sure to say hello to Ev and Stefan for us.”

What struck me wasn’t that I heard it once or twice. It was that I heard it everywhere. From Felipe Pikullik in Berlin… to Christine Hutter at Moritz Grossmann… to Dirk Dornblüth in Kalbe… and nearly everyone in between. Different towns. Different workshops. Different philosophies. Yet the message never changed.

After spending time with Stefan and Ev, I understand why. Yes, they build exceptional watches. Anyone who has seen their work already knows that. But what they’re really building goes far beyond what’s on your wrist.

They’ve built a reputation rooted in kindness, humility, generosity, and a genuine love for horology. They welcome people with curiosity instead of pretense, freely share their knowledge, celebrate the work of fellow watchmakers, and make everyone who walks through their door feel like a friend rather than a customer.

In an industry built around making time, they’ve also made time for people.

To me, that’s a legacy no complication can measure. It’s found in the respect of peers, the friendships they’ve cultivated, and the way an entire community speaks about them when they’re not in the room.

Sometimes the greatest thing a watchmaker builds isn’t a watch.

It’s the kind of reputation that makes an entire community instinctively say, “Tell Ev and Stefan hello.”. by @throughthewatch

At first, I wanted to understand watch movements, finishing, design and history. The deeper I went, the less interested I became in what someone had made and the more I wanted to understand why, and what it had taken to bring the idea to life.

Visiting workshops in Berlin, Kalbe, Weifa and Glashütte made that shift tangible. I saw families working side by side, knowledge passed from one generation to the next, and makers choosing conviction over convenience.

Those conversations stayed with me longer than the specifications.

Through The Watch grew from realizing I didn’t want to simply share another photograph of a watch. I wanted to share the person who imagined it, the place that shaped it, the hands that made it and the story that might otherwise remain unseen.

I still love watches, probably more than ever. But now I see beyond the movement, case and dial. What stands out to me now are the hours, risks, relationships and conviction that brought each one to life.

The watch is where the story becomes visible.
