Have we just become collectors?

Collectors of moments. Places. Experiences. Things Proof that our lives matter.

But Jesus says something freeing to His disciples when he sends them out on mission - He says travel light. But what he says when they come back with stories to tell blows my mind:

Do not rejoice in what happened out there. Rejoice that your name is written in heaven.

Maybe travel light is more than a prescriptive list for what to take on the journey but a mindset shift as we see the world around us as only temporary. As we learn that God provides along the way.

It’s a shift that happens deep down so even if we are facing untold hardship or find ourselves in the midst of joy. We are content knowing that all of this is only temporary.

Meaning is not something we accumulate.
Meaning is something we have already been given.

That is why we can live lightly.
That is why we can travel light.

Because this is not home.

Only temporary.

Thought a lot this past week about not just what it means to wear this Disciple range, but what does it actually look like to be one? by @thunderandson

Here’s what we’ve been reminded of this week as we put a new range together. Slow down, stop rushing onto the next thing, make a disciple who makes a disciple.

Formation takes time. Full formation sees another take the wild step of moving from learner to teacher, showing someone else how to become a disciple of Jesus. This isn’t something we can do in the 100s, I mean Jesus only did it with 12 and 1 of them basically stabbed him in the back.

Who are you pouring yourself into and who needs to be reminded, slow down, and make the most of the time you have been given with the few in your inner circle. Stop reaching for more, what you have is enough.

So as I get into design this week I can’t but notice my soul feels good. The more I’ve created lately the more I actually feel like a creative. The more art I’ve produced the more art has come naturally to me.

But creating something meaningful and spiritually engaging doesn’t happen over night, it comes from countless weeks and months praying in the secret place. It may look like we are rushing, but in reality it’s coming from a steady deep place of known Jesus and wanting to make him Known.

So no magic here sorry, just deeply formed people making deeply formed missional clothing. by @thunderandson

I once heard this proverb when visiting my missionary friends in Tanzania. If you want to go fast go alone, but if you want to go far, go together.

Maybe slowing down for a couple of days looks like a waste of time but honestly it’s been the best practice for us to just realign our vision with what we think Jesus wants to do next. by @thunderandson
