Inclusion is not about opening the door. It is about designing the room.

Drawing from my work with the @girlgamer and the @adaptiveesports, here are 5 key takeaways from my keynote "Inclusive by Design" at the EsportsTravel Summit 2026:

1 - 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭: Shift from simply handing out invitations to fundamentally redesigning the architecture of the event. Listen early and let lived experiences shape your decisions.

2 - 𝐂𝐨-𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲: If inclusion depends on an exception, the system was not inclusive to begin with. Formats, rules, tools, and pathways need to be built for different realities from day one.

3 - 𝐁𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Accessibility cannot be an afterthought. Treat interpretation, travel support, quiet spaces, and adaptive tech as core budget line items.

4 - 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: One-off diversity activations are fragile, whereas ecosystems compound. Connect your events to year-round leagues, mentorship, education, and next opportunities.

5 - 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: Underrepresentation is not a marketing gap; it is a systems gap. Success means tracking safety, satisfaction, repeat participation, and advancement, rather than just headcount.

Opening the door is not inclusion. We must design the access, the pathway, and the legacy.

Two years ago, we hit a landmark moment for Portuguese Esports. 🇵🇹

Back in July 2024, I had the honor of participating in Portugal's inaugural Parliamentary Conference on Esports. It was a massive step toward formal recognition, aligning perfectly with a draft law introduced to establish pro-player visas, legal frameworks, and support for the federation.

Still pushing forward until Portugal officially joins the ranks of European countries that formally recognize Esports! taken in Assembleia Da República De Portugal by @tiagoerfernandes

In all honesty, I didn’t expect the incredible level of close tracking and wholesome support we’ve been getting with the Minecraft School Challenge. This isn’t just a game dropped into a classroom, this is what the future of education looks like! 💡

Developed at @growupesports, the Minecraft School Challenge is a structured 3-month program designed to completely transform how students learn. The kids are guided through real professional phases, starting from initial design, brainstorming, and role assignment, all the way through construction, internal reviews, and final presentations.

It directly targets core academic and life skills that are essential for their future:

🤝 Teamwork & Communication: Learning to collaborate, share ideas, and respect different opinions.

🧠 Problem-Solving & Resilience: Finding quick solutions to challenges and learning from mistakes.

⏱️ Time Management: Planning out projects and meeting strict deadlines over a 6-week build cycle.

Seeing the true purpose of this tournament come to life has been absolutely eye-opening. But the absolute icing on the cake? I get the unique privilege of teaching and guiding my own son and his amazing classmates through this entire journey!

A massive thank you to our partners @ipdj_ip and local municipalities of @municipioseixal and @camaradesintra, as well as sponsors @lenovopt and @spiritofgamer_iberia, for bringing such a high-value, safe, and inclusive initiative to our kids completely free of charge! 🇵🇹✨

The Montenegro Future Festival / European Gaming Summit is a wrap. ✨

Drawing from my journey running @girlgamer and @adaptiveesports, I had the opportunity to take the stage and speak about diversity and inclusion in Esports and share how building intentional spaces for underrepresented communities isn't just the right thing to do, it's what moves our industry forward.

From adaptive athletes breaking barriers to women reshaping competitive gaming, it's no longer only about who wins but who gets to participate. taken in Bar, Montenegro by @tiagoerfernandes
