One of our first ADs, @mrkhansson, really really wanted me to learn the Art of the Extra. @jacquebenzekry suggested I bring a friend because it’s a long ass day alone. So this is how we got here. @foulmouthedyogi and I are in Dark Matter season 2 episode 6. There were fittings beforehand, 4am hair and make-up, lots of fake talking, sitting around, waiting, Dana getting hit on by one of the actors and Mark teaching moments. We drew the line at fake dancing. He made sure we were in the best shots. I learned a tremendous amount. It was lovely to meet the veteran Extras and learn about their lives. It’s not an easy job! This day also marked the start of my cancer scare, my lymph node mysteriously and painfully swelled up that day. Also, one of my favorite things about Dana’s visit was going to the grocery store bar (yes there’s an actual bar at the Mariano’s and we were given permission to not ask for permission to keep the glasses). taken in Auditorium Theatre by @ticash

The Box in the wild. This was one of our hardest locations to find for Dark Matter, originally Lavender Fields, and we ended up across from the Tinley Creek Model Airplane Fields about 40 minutes from Chicago in Matteson, IL. When we first scouted they had to ground the planes before we could walk out into the fields. There were some very serious model airplane pilots about. The day of the shoot we had crazy rain, to the point that @jacquebenzekry wasn’t able to make it to set because of the flooded roads. I somehow made it and there was worry we wouldn’t be able to shoot because of lightning. We had to sit in our cars for a few hours before we got the all-clear, and that happened to be the magic hour. It looks so beautiful on screen and in person it was breathtaking. I do love a rainbow. by @ticash

We had an amazing time on our second pizza quest in the Southern Tier of New York, hitting 10 places in just 1 day. Paul and Sons was the stand out winner and @robrispoli’s homemade pie was a major contender. I hope we get to do this again soon! We rated each slice on Crust: Crisp, Undercarriage, Structure - Sauce - Cheese: Blend, Melt - and Overall. Out of a possible 35 points here are our rankings:

The abandoned school where we shot the Box in the pool on the south side of Chicago was maybe my favorite location for Dark Matter. It felt dystopian and I got a glimpse into what happens when suddenly something is left to decay. So amazing to be able to experience this haunting place. by @ticash

Happy Dark Matter Day! I LOVED location scouting. It was an incredible way to see Chicago, often going to places most people could never go. It was also amazing to witness the collaboration and vision be realized by our director and cinematographer in real time. Here are a few photos from our locations in 201 with director @gwynethhorderpayton and our cinematographer John Lindley. Cloud Gate aka the Bean where the Box was moved and the Illinois National Guard Northwest Armory where we shot Jason 13 being interrogated by Mac and Mac looking at all the dead Jasons. Also a fun BTS of our dead Jasons stills shoot by @sandymorrisphoto and Nanner’s chicago jacket. It was a race to get this redone in time to plant the squash and melons this season. Can barely move after the last 3 day push to finish the bricks to the point of filling the 16.5 ft bed with 4 cubic yards of soil, which I had to wheel borrow from the curb to the back. Also put the trellis back on this morning which I herculesed myself somehow. Still have to finish the rubber bricks and tacking some parts down but so so so happy the hard part is done. Special thanks to @ehanmordhorst who helped along the way, especially doing his least favorite thing ever, removing the plastic covering on the inside of the bed which was missed when they were put together last year. Farmer Barb also helped with that annoying task during the three day push. Will sleep great tonight. taken in Portland, Oregon by @ticash

Dark Matter S2. 17 months of being on the show side (with 10 months in Chicago) has just come to an end. Our last mix session, DI color session, a wicked wrap party from this wild last LA week, my gorgeous lake view apartment, and some great Chicago views are a few selects. Best part was all the amazing people I met and contributing to something I’m truly proud of. 10/10 would do it again despite Chicago’s 🥶 🥶 & 🌪️ 🌪️ Tune in Aug 28th on Apple TV+. #darkmatter #appletv by @ticash
