POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Reflecting on an incredible 3 Days of Design back in June — and the role TILT played in bringing Beginnings & Endings to life with @tarkettofficial.

Beyond designing and curating the exhibition, TILT supported the selection and commissioning of three visionary designers — @yinka_ilori, @laurids.gallee and @christianandjade, overseeing their creative journeys from factory visit through to final installation. Working with @dammeskieft @thomasdeboer.work, TILT produced the accompanying film documentation and storytelling that captured how carpet, homogeneous vinyl and linoleum could be reimagined not as finished products, but as material starting points on a circular journey. And throughout the week, we supported a programme of activations within the exhibition - talks, breakfasts with the designers, and mindfulness sessions - designed to slow visitors down and invite real reflection on circularity as a creative practice, not just a technical one.

At a time when many brands are quietly stepping back from sustainability commitments amid economic uncertainty, it's been genuinely energising to work with a brand doing the opposite - placing circularity and material storytelling at the very centre of their design week presence. It's exactly why Beginnings & Endings felt so aligned with this year's @3daysofdesign theme, ‘Make This Moment Matter’: a reminder that purpose-driven design isn't a luxury for easier times, it's the work worth doing now.

Thank you to everyone who visited, took part in a session, or shared in the conversations across the three days. Three designers, three materials, three factories, infinite lives. by @tilt_futures

WE ARE NATURE: from protest to parade 🦌🦋🐦‍⬛

At TILT, we work on projects with global reach - but we care just as much about impact closer to home. We believe community is a vital pillar in an increasingly volatile future. We’re remote-first, with team members across the UK and Europe, but our studio in Frome, Somerset is gently growing, and it felt important to root a project right here.

On Sunday, the final day of @frome.festival, over 1,000 people took to the streets for our WE ARE NATURE Wildlife Parade - a joyful, town-wide celebration of creativity and our place in the natural world.

The project began in schools, with TILT collaborating with artist @katekearapelen and @frometowncouncil to run assemblies at all eight of Frome’s primary schools - exploring interconnection with nature, and the idea that we are part of nature, not separate from it.

We started this because the stories we tell about nature shape how we treat it. Too often “nature” is framed as separate from us - a resource, a backdrop, a problem to manage. We wanted to offer children, and the adults around them, a different starting point.

TILT founder Caroline Till said: “We invited each child to step into the shoes of another species, constructing a wildlife mask to wear to the parade, so we could come together in one big celebration of creativity and nature.”

The result: handmade lions, elk, birds and beasts dancing through town, a flash mob led by Mojo Moves to Katy Perry’s “Roar,” and speeches, music and dancing in Welshmill Woods.

This is just the beginning. We hope it becomes a Frome tradition - an annual reminder that reconnecting with nature isn’t nostalgic, but necessary. We’re already thinking about next year, and where this model could travel beyond Frome.

Huge thanks to @frometowncouncil, @___mother_of_mankind___ for DJing in the woods, our eight partner schools, @bristol.experimental.puppet, and every family who picked up scissors and glue to make this happen.

Two weeks ago we held a celebration in London with many of our clients, collaborators and friends — celebrating 17 years of work as FranklinTill, and marking the stepping into a new chapter as TILT.

We chose to host it at Camley Street Natural Park, a London Wildlife Trust venue, so that even the money spent on the night could go towards protecting wildlife and wild spaces.

A huge thank you to @veritystanden and collaborators, who performed an extract from her incredible new concert, Everything Slips, which premiered last month in Bristol. Verity creates artwork with the human voice, and the piece felt so resonant with one of the BIG questions we've been grappling with as a futures consultancy — what does it mean to be human now? In the context of increasing division, complexity and polycrisis, what do we want for our lives, and the lives of others? This question sits at the core of our work, and we embrace the challenge of exploring our individual and collective responsibility, and the role design can play in supporting a flourishing future.

Many of you likely know us for our depth of expertise in material and colour futures, and our belief in material as the building blocks of design. But we also have deep expertise in research, foresight and innovation — right now grappling with exciting briefs on the future role of robotics in the home, our evolving definition of health, the future of sport, circular material innovation in interior and architectural settings, and the future of food & drink in the context of sustainability.

Over the years we've been trusted with so many juicy questions and rich briefs. Thank you to all our clients and collaborators for that trust. We're just getting started.

TILT have collaborated with @tarkettofficial to curate the exhibition Beginnings & Endings at @3daysofdesign. Inviting three visionary designers — @yinka_ilori, @laurids.gallee and @christianandjade — to explore how carpet, homogeneous vinyl and linoleum can be used creatively, not as finished flooring products but as material starting points on a circular journey.

The beginning of the creative journey started with each designer visiting one of Tarkett’s factories, to understand the changing states of materials as they move through Tarkett’s circular systems.

@christianandjade are a Danish-Singaporean design duo whose practice emphasises slow, intentional craftsmanship. They travelled to Narni, Italy to experience the production cycle of linoleum, made from a blend of natural, renewable materials.

The project begins at the factory, with the end determined the designer, with Tarkett able to guide on to a new beginning at end of life.

@laurids.gallee is an Austrian designer based in Rotterdam, Netherlands, who creates distinctive, one-of-a-kind pieces that prioritise material and artistic expression over conventional functionality. He travelled to Tarkett’s factory in Ronneby, Sweden to experience the production cycle of HO, homogeneous vinyl flooring, a single-layer mono material with visual depth and exceptional durability.

The project begins at the factory, with the end determined the designer, with Tarkett able to guide on to a new beginning at end of life.

-

For 3daysofdesign this year, Tarkett invited us to explore new possibilities with their linoleum range - made from renewable natural materials such as linseed oil, resin and cork, and designed to be fully returned to their production system for recycling.

By rethinking Tarkett’s surface materials through function, flooring becomes seating and wall covering becomes a desk. Designed with visible connections and reversibility, each piece can be disassembled, allowing the materials to be separated, recycled, and returned to production as part of Tarkett’s focus on circularity.

Beginnings & Endings at 3daysofdesign

TILT have collaborated with @tarkettofficial to curate the exhibition Beginnings & Endings at @3daysofdesign . Inviting three visionary designers — @yinka_ilori, @laurids.gallee and @christianandjade — to explore how carpet, homogeneous vinyl and linoleum can be used creatively, not as finished flooring products but as material starting points on a circular journey.

Our three exhibiting designers have approached the brief through different creative lenses, playing with themes of materiality, craft, permanence, memory, ritual and joy — encouraging us to consider circularity as a creative practice, shaped as much by imagination and expression as by technical skill and innovation.

If you are in town and would like to meet or arrange a tour of Beginnings & Endings, please drop us a mesage.

TILT is the design futures consultancy shaping positive innovations for people and planet.

For over two decades we've championed radical and responsible ideas around technology, climate and culture, grounded in deep expertise in colour, materials and design.

To celebrate this new chapter, we collaborated with artist and composer Minh Lê Boutin @minhginkgokoko and motion designer Jack Hudson to bring to life a portfolio reel that captures two decades of shaping futures. by @tilt_futures
