ADVANCED ACTING FOR THE LENS — COMING SOON

We’re currently planning the next installment of our Acting for the Lens workshop series, and this one will be designed for actors who want to go deeper into the process of performing for camera.

Advanced Acting for the Lens will build on the concepts from our original Acting for the Lens workshop, with a stronger emphasis on scene work, performance adjustment, blocking, continuity, eyelines, and the experience of working in a more complete production environment.

Actors will be paired together and given scripted material to prepare. During the workshop, we’ll work through those scenes much like we would on an actual set, using a professional three-camera setup, production lighting, sound, multiple takes, and direct performance feedback.

The goal is to give each actor the opportunity to work through a scene in a way that feels practical, cinematic, and close to the experience of stepping onto a professional film set.

The workshop will include:

* Professionally written scene material
* Scene preparation and rehearsal
* Working with direction and performance adjustments
* Blocking, marks, eyelines, and continuity
* A professional three-camera setup
* Multiple takes and coverage
* Professional lighting and production sound
* A limited class size to allow meaningful time in front of the camera
* Professionally edited footage from the scene for use in an acting reel

We’re currently looking at Saturday, November 21 in Arlington as the tentative date, but we’re still finalizing the venue and details before opening registration.

Before we lock everything in, we’d like to get a sense of how many actors would be interested in participating.

We’re planning to keep the workshop limited to 12 actors.

The official poster and a few frames from Where He Left Himself.

From the beginning, I wanted this film to feel warm, quiet and lived-in — beautiful without ever feeling overly polished. The camera needed to observe Helen’s world rather than call attention to itself, letting light, composition and the small details of the house carry as much emotion as the dialogue.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for our Self-Tape Audition Workshop!

We had a great group of actors who came ready to learn, ask questions, get on camera, and put the techniques into practice. It was incredibly rewarding to see everyone working through the process and gaining a better understanding of what makes a strong self-tape audition.

A special thank you to Casting Director @ronihummel for sharing her experience, insight, and perspective from the casting side of the process. Having that real-world feedback made the day even more valuable.

And thank you to everyone who helped make the workshop possible and to every actor who trusted us with their time and their work.

We’re grateful for such a successful workshop and excited about what we can build from here. More workshops are coming soon!

Tomorrow, principal photography begins on Where He Left Himself.

Today is all about arriving at location, walking the rooms one more time, staging the space, checking camera angles, testing light, and getting everything ready before the cast and crew arrive in the morning.

This little film has lived in my head for a while, and it’s a special feeling to finally stand in the house where Helen and Arthur’s story will come to life.

We’re filming in Glen Rose, Texas, with the ARRI Alexa Mini and DZO Arles primes, building a quiet, intimate visual world around memory, grief, love, and all the little pieces of someone that remain after they’re gone.

I was lucky to get a part in this proof of concept earlier this year, and I cannot wait to see where this project goes. It’s a powerful story.

Last year, @jdleachofficial published his first book—a personal account of his experiences growing up in the Juvenile Justice System.

Just months later, that story evolved into something even bigger through a collaboration with award-winning filmmaker Paul Michael O’Connor and Casting Director Roni Hummel. Together, they brought the story to life as a proof of concept for Behind Closed Eyes.
