You already create the kind of safety that makes people tell the truth.

Now you get to become the facilitator who knows what to do when that truth arrives with force.

The people-pleaser finds the no they have spent years trying to think their way into.

The client who understands the pattern feels what they are no longer willing to tolerate.

The boundary becomes something their whole body can stand behind.

And your work becomes known for the moments where insight turns into agency, truth turns into action, and anger becomes the force that changes what happens next.

That is Charge Work.

After 1,000+ clients, 15+ trainings and retreats, and training 60+ Emotional Release Facilitators, we built the 8-Day Charge Work Challenge around one conclusion:

An angry nervous system is a healthy nervous system.

Most of what we’ve been taught about “regulating” our nervous system is actually just sophisticated emotional avoidance.

What we’re actually doing when we “calm down”:

* Activating a manager part that believes emotions need to be controlled
* Training our system to distrust its own natural intelligence
* Perpetuating childhood survival patterns of emotional shutdown

🔥 When you breathe away your anger, meditate down your grief, or reframe your terror into something more manageable, you’re treating your emotions like dangerous intruders rather than autonomous messengers with their own intelligence.

Real nervous system work isn’t about calming down—it’s about developing the capacity to stay present with whatever is moving through you without immediately reaching for a tool to make it different.

💡 The path to real nervous system work:
1. Notice when you’re trying to change what you’re feeling
2. Get curious about what’s actually present instead of managing it
3. Let the emotion move through you at its own pace and wisdom

Your emotions are released in the moment you understood their message.

Nobody talks about these 👇🏼

Yes — you can pick up books like The Body Keeps The Score or The Myth of Normal and walk away with a solid understanding of trauma.

There’s a reason these books are everywhere.

But underneath the well-known titles sits a deeper layer of writing on this topic that very few people ever reach.
Here are 3 of those books:

1️⃣ The Primal Wound — John Firman & Ann Gila
One of my top 5 books of all time. It maps the psychodynamics of trauma, the addictive and compulsive patterns we use to cope, and the path through them. You’ll meet concepts like “the fear of non-being” and the “internal/external unifying center” that quietly reshape how you see yourself.

2️⃣ Trauma and the Soul — Donald Kalsched
Picture Peter Levine and Carl Jung sitting across from each other, talking about trauma. This book offers a Jungian view of trauma, dissociation, and the archetypal forces moving underneath our wounds.

3️⃣ Healing Developmental Trauma — Laurence Heller / Aline LaPierre
I hand this book to every student and client I work with. It’s the clearest introduction to developmental trauma you’ll find, and it opens the door to NARM, one of the most refined trauma modalities available today. Deeply relational, rich in theory you’ll carry with you for years, whether you’re walking your own healing path or sitting across from clients. A must-read.

Pick one of these and commit to finishing it. Go gently with yourself, and also: watch out for the “owning 100 books and finishing none” trap.

Save this post for later and follow along for more.

Take care,
Tim

And here‘s one more thing ⬇️

It’s one thing to talk about your story.

👉🏼But another to talk from the EMOTION of your story.

I invite you to feel your pain and let it resonate with those who are trustworthy enough to listen.

🙏🏼Birth life out of your story.
🙏🏼Create connection.

It’s not just a sequence of events - it’s a part of your soul expressing itself, and with you sharing yourself vulnerable, you give yourself a chance to share it.

And then, once you share it, you may feel that it was a gift for those who listened.

🫴🏼They feel closer to you, and you closer to them. by @timdajan

Emotional Release Work is the key 👇🏼

First things first.

You’re not releasing your emotions but your resistance to them.

Your inner critic is charged with anger.

That anger belongs outside.

But it went inside.

Healing the inner critic means releasing the resistance to that anger and learning to channel it in the right direction.

We‘re NOT healing our emotions.

We are healing the relationship we have towards them.

That means:

If you respond to an emotion AS IF it was something that needs to be regulated away rather than related to, your nervous system perceives danger.

But what if your anger is nothing dangerous, but a somatic expression of your potential that got repressed into the shadows?

What if it shows you what you want, and what you can’t tolerate?

If you’re not in touch with that, there’s a chance you lose touch with what it’s trying to show.

And that is true for all emotions, also the unpleasant ones.

👇🏼 Healing your trauma means feeling your anger 👇🏼

After helping over 500 people transform their anger into power, I know that one thing is for sure.

Like no discussion:

You need to integrate your anger if you want to heal.

Let me explain why anger is so transformative.

First of all:

1️⃣ Trauma is created in relationship
2️⃣ Is sustained in relationship
2️⃣ And heals in relationship

And this is the exact reason you need to feel your anger in order to heal:

Anger is showing you when:

👉🏼 Boundaries are crossed
👉🏼 Relationships get toxic
👉🏼 You‘re being hurt

In short: It shows you when it‘s enough.

And then something sacred can happen:

Anger helps you staying connected with yourself when injustice happens.

This is why we teach it all of our emotional release trainings.

Anger is an uprising of healthy defenses that preserve:

🔥 Your self-worth
🔥 Your innocence
🔥 Your inner children

Trauma healing 🤝 shadow work

All shadow work is trauma work.

Why?

Because shame is the main consequence of trauma.

Shame is the belief that we‘re not good enough, the barrier that represses unwanted emotions, thoughts and behaviours into our shadows.

These 3 books are all you need to understand everything about shadow work, so save this post for your trauma healing journey.

1. Conny Zweig - Meeting The Shadow

The quintessential book on the shadow. Dozens of essays from the best psychologists, philosophers and spiritual teachers on the shadow. A must read for everyone interested in shadow work.

2. Robert Johnson - Inner Work

A practical guide to Jungian shadow work. After reading this book you‘ll be able to understand all your dreams, and how to build a strong relationship with your unconscious through active imagination. It has changed my life, top 5 book for me.

3. Donald Kalsched - Trauma and The Soul

Kalsched bridges the gap between Jungian analysis and trauma healing. It is a monumental work, incredibly helpful and doing a fantastic job in mapping out the inner world of trauma and its archetypal dimensions.

Most people are not willing to go this deep 👇

I’m not bashing breathwork - I’m telling you that there is more depth than the purely somatic level.

Here is the three step method we teach inside the @emotionalrelease.academy

1️⃣ Equalising

Before you do anything with the emotion, you give the sensation permission to stay in your body. You ask one honest question of whatever is alive there right now: can this be here exactly as it is, just for one breath? If the answer is no, you ask if you can allow the part of you that says no. You keep peeling layers until you reach a feeling you can stay with, and then you move back inwards. The charge tends to soften on its own once you stop pushing against it.

2️⃣ Conversion

Once the resistance softens, you translate the raw sensation into a symbol so the conscious mind has something to work with. You ask your body: if this emotion had a form, how would it look? Let the image arrive on its own from inside the body. People often see a door, a wave, a forest, a closed fist, a heavy stone. You then ask simple questions of the image, like what colour it has, where it sits in your body, what it wants from you, and what it is made of. The symbol gives the emotion a container so you can move with it at a pace your nervous system can handle.

3️⃣ Phantom Dialogue

Now you bring the person or part of you that carries the charge into the room. You imagine them sitting across from you, and you decide how close they sit. You say out loud, in full sentences, the things that never got said. Speak the anger, the grief, the request, the boundary. Notice how your body responds while you speak, where it tightens, where it relaxes. The point of this work is to finish the conversation inside your head, so you stop replaying it for the next ten years.

And here‘s the most important thing 👇🏼

The snake bites its tail not just with the inner critic.

We care judging our judgements.
Living in cages made of „freedom“.
And stay broken through thinking we need to heal.

Your inner critic = stress until you do this:

Notice how you relate to your inner critic.

If it is understanding and open, or at least curious, you’re relating from the healthy adult.

If you’re arguing with it, or blaming yourself, feel guilt or angry that it’s here - that part needs your attention.

Imagine it like an onion. The inner critic is in the middle, and there is another layer of criticism around it.

Nobody mentions this 👇🏼

Spiritual language can become the most convenient way to never be truly in connection.

Spirituality can create another persona, and instead of transcending the ego, the ego catches the spiritual behaviours and clings onto them.
