Last night, Timothy and I got to see the opening of West Side Story by Music Theater Work and it was an absolutely stellar and flawless production. The choreography was true to Jerome Robbins style, which was gorgeous and the leads of Maria and Tony were phenomenal. Isabella, who played Maria, her vocal Range was something I have not seen in a long time on the Chicago stage. And the dancing was superb, the costumes and the set was perfection and the Orchestra to play the score was not easy and they did a beautiful job that just brought the musical to life. If you get a chance to go see it, please do, this story that has been around since the dawn of time of two people unable to love each other because they’re on opposite sides is something that is prevalent today. It’s based on Romeo and Juliet and it has been told but the story, like all good art lives on for a reason. @shoutchicago @musictheaterworks @timothydavidrey by @timothydavidrey

THANKS Lifeline Theater for selecting me as one of five national finalists for your 2026 BIPOC Adaptation Workshop. After a wide call, and many excellent submissions, it was an honor to chat with your company about adapting a classic novel and folding that novel into a play that might reveal, through drama, what horrors we now face in the current political climate. I really believe in this new/ concept play which ( in my style) investigates the literary life of a poet & novelist’s work and utilizes inter textually to arrive at a possible new meaning. by @timothydavidrey
