Happy Seattle Art Fair week! Do you already have plans to bop around to see a lot of cool art? Do you need an idea of where you should go? Well come say hi to MEEEE!! This is where I’ll be this weekend… I’m helping facilitate these two shows down in Pioneer Square and I’d love to see you:

Friday evening come experience @bbbenzamoraaa’s immersive light installation at The Jack. Factory is throwing this opening party and if you haven’t experienced Ben’s work that you can walk through, you have to come, it’s a trippy experience. Ben is recreating his childhood home from memory using his iconic sculpture material of choice: office light tubes. 5-10pm Friday night, but if you can’t make it, then you can still go see it Saturday & Sunday. Check @thefactoryseattle for more deets and hours.

Just two blocks away, I’ll be spending the rest of the weekend making sure you don’t touch the art at Grand Gesture on floor 5 of RailSpur. I’ll be here Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. It’s free but you do have to RSVP, I’ll post the link in my stories. The opening party is tmrw, Thursday night, from 7-9pm and the one and only Charles Mudede is DJing. Check @arcade_nw for more info.

@railspur.seattle is filled with other great art shows for this weekend as well, from the Neddy artist awards 30th recap on floor 2 to the Recology AIR show on floor 4 and even more, so go RSVP.

Also while you’re in the area, don’t miss the @actualize.air showcase this weekend just right up the street. I got a lil sneak peak of some of the art and @buyhotlunch’s install is so fun. Throwing in a photo of this magical human disappearing into the elevator as my last slide. Xoxo. taken in Pioneer Square, Seattle, Washington by @timothyrysdyke

Okay, I don’t know why I’m like this but I’ve always used social media as documentation of my life, I guess as we all do, but then I get behind, and I feel overwhelmed like, “omg, I haven’t uploaded all these great pictures and memories from the past 6 months”. I wanted to post about some artwork I made for some shows this month but my brain won’t let me until I make a PHOTO DUMP of some of these last months.

I got to visit my family in NC for a wedding, got to be around the cutest dirtiest dogs, got to celebrate some of my favorite peoples birthdays, I got to make art and throw art shows for others peoples art, I got to tag along on a friends work trip to Palm Springs, and I got to be reminded that I’m surrounded around an amazing community that gives a damn.

I might need to post a photo DUMB (my auto correct keeps fixing it to that and I think it’s pretty accurate) part 2 but here’s my 1st toe. by @timothyrysdyke

Hey, come to QUEER FOR ALL tonight at The Factory. Here are some random fast silly snapshots I took while leaving the gallery this morning at 6AM, because hanging 90 pieces of artwork from 50 artists just straight up calls for an all nighter to pull it off.

I do have to give a hugeee shout out to @libby_logerwell for her help intaking art work and also one million galaxies worth of shout out to @llapdawg for his help with literally everything from printing the labels, to beer runs, and help hanging the show.

I’m so proud of this show and everyone in it and I’d love for you to see it. The opening is tonight, Thursday, June 11th from 6-10pm.

“Don’t take a picture of me, I’m not posing!”

No but for real, it felt like I needed to come on here to make an announcement 🙄 Okay so I stopped following everyone on instagram last December. Every single follower I had. It took almost a week to complete, because IG has some sort of setting where you can only unfollow a certain amount of people a day. Silly.

I just needed a purge. And a breath. It was nice.

About a month ago I decided I was ready to start following again. But as I started following some of my closest friends I was met with messages of confusion and feelings of abandonment. “Were you really not following me this whole time?” Or they thought they did something wrong that made me unfollow them personally, and then follow them again.

This is so stupid that I’ve had anxiety this much about social media but well, here I am. Making a fucking “announcement”.

No I did not unfollow you for a reason. It is not personal. I unfollowed everyone. I want to use instagram again in the way it is intended to be used, so you might get a follow request from me soon. I want to follow you. Xoxo. by @timothyrysdyke

Hello! Hi. Today is my birthday.

Birthdays have always felt a little weird to me. As a kid they just kind of happen to you. As an adult, I realize, they now come with so much reflection, feelings, and a mild existential spiral.

I have had 2 surprise birthdays over my 39 years, & I have cried after both of them. My first best friend once threw me a surprise party back in my hometown. It felt really good & I felt loved, but I also remember feeling so disoriented & confused for awhile during and after it.

Another surprise birthday came years later, by another close friend at an escape room with all my fav people there. I still cried after that one too.

My favorite birthday was my 30th. Weirdly, that was the year I decided to take control & throw myself a proper party, which ended up being a funeral for my youth. I guess, that probably explains a lot.

It is hard for me to be the center of attention, & especially just for being born. If anything, all the credit should go to my mom, Kelly. She did the work. I am just here because of her, but still being weird, being emotional, and still caring deeply.

This picture here is one of the best gifts I have gotten in a long time. Al Pastries took a photo of me eating a chicken nugget behind the bar at The Factory, then commissioned @mr.oli.big to turn that moment into an illustration. I love it so much & it holds a lot of memories of a place I love most.

This weekend, it just felt strange to celebrate myself and ask others to celebrate me, when I am working hard to keep up with just life & keep this passion, The Factory, alive. This gallery is a 10 year dream, a beautiful little labor of love and an ongoing fragile fight, and I do not talk about that struggle unless I am asking for help. Which I guess I am.

So here is my birthday wish. If you would have bought me a drink tonight, or maybe a gift from CVS on the way to the party, would you consider donating that 12 dollars to The Factory instead? My Venmo is @Timothy-Rysdyke. My cash app is $Rysdyke.

This illustrated moment of life reminds me why I do this, why I want to keep going, & why I also deserve chicken nuggets along the way. Especially on my birthday. by @timothyrysdyke

It’s been forever since I’ve uploaded to IG, so here’s my face for the algorithm, as they say. But I’m mostly here to tell you about this new thing I’m doing. My phone’s camera is broken, so you can’t see what I’m working on, or whatever stupid shit I’m doing with my dog. But let me tell you, recently I’ve been workin hard.

I’m now curating art shows down in Pioneer Square, doubling up on art walks. First time at the First, and I’m holding monthly shows at this new cool space called Baba Yaga. Actually, my friend @kathleenfwarren snapped this photo of me during the soft opening there (I matched by accident). But look, the tables are cute, the vibe is right, and I was honored and ready to hit the ground running.

I’m totally excited and diving in headfirst because this is what I *love* to do. Yeah, it eats up all my time and energy, and if you can believe it or not, I literally end up paying to do this thing I love (Hello, Factory rent). I’ll save that rant for another day, because this—this isn’t about money. Clearly, I’m not in it for the money. I work at a grocery store as my “real job” to try to keep myself, my dog, and this dream alive.

What this post *is* about is my love for art, my love for curating. For sharing these beautiful things with people, hoping that maybe—just maybe—it brings folks together, even if it’s just for a fleeting, collective moment. And it’s really about my love for artists—how much they mean to me, how much I believe they make the world better, even though, in the grand scheme of things, they’re often the underdogs.

This is also about this specific show I’ve put together—featuring 16 of my absolute favorite artists in the city—and how I need you to come see it. Because honestly, if you don’t, what am I even doing this for?

Come to @babayagaseattle TONIGHT and check out this weird, wonderful show I’m so proud of. Come see the art from these amazing creators who I think are the absolute best. Come witness the hard work, the creativity, the freaky mind-bending fantasies, the vulnerabilities, the talent, the late nights, the hours spent—it’s all there, on display. Tonight will be fun. Meet me there. taken in Baba Yaga Seattle by @timothyrysdyke

Packages coming in with supplies needed for art commissions, and packages going out selling unneeded things to the internet. Trash and treasures, broken mirrors, gold and mushrooms, pac-man ghosts and McDonald’s wrappers, and of course counting all my shinny shinny marbles. by @timothyrysdyke

Google has been yelling at me for weeks about the amount of space I take up & I needed to delete shit. So, I went in to see the biggest files hogging up space and oops the app has been backing up so many videos I just send to people when trying to give a lot of information, talking for 8 mins to people I work with, friends I needed to download with and texting was too much, artists I was collaborating with under a deadline. It was funny and weird to see me over there years, different hair lengths, life stages, moods, time stamps on life. As a memory hoarder it was only natural to screenshot as I deleted those huge files. So here’s a weird self portrait of myself from the past what…3 or 4 years as I blabbed and communicated and just trying to be heard. Xoxoxoo by @timothyrysdyke
