More prior face-fuzz tomfoolery to enjoy, in this Thursday Flashback to when filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller made me dress-up like New Age jazz-rocker Frank Zappa, and then deposited me behind a busy bar in the corner of a rough-and-tumble saloon in a galaxy far, far away. The mo’ was all my own work. The poodle hair-style… distinctly less so.

Frank Zappa used several pseudonyms throughout his career, including Obdew’l X, Ruben Sano, and Stucco Homes and famously disliked hippies; viewing them as conformist phonies and anti-intellectual trend-followers rather than as genuine free-thinkers.

Extracted from indie rom-com, LOVE ME TILL MONDAY. Georgia Maguire as Becky. Ludo Hardy as Ollie. Tim Plester as Steve. Featuring an exact replica of The Bayeux Tapestry, painstakingly recreated in the 19th century and currently on permanent display at Reading Museum, Berkshire.

After more than 900 years in northwestern France, The Real Bayeux Tapestry arrived back on English shores last week, ahead of its controversial temporary display at The British Museum. Technically not a tapestry at all, but a 224-foot long embroidery, the fragile and priceless medieval masterwork depicts the story of The Norman Conquest of England in the 11th century, culminating in The Battle of Hastings in 1066, when William, Duke of Normandy, defeated the Anglo-Saxons and their ruler, King Harold Godwinson.

“The Bayeux Tapestry” exhibition opens at The British Museum on September 10th, and has already broken the museum’s record for tickets sold in a single day.

THE OFFICE (UK) and HAPPINESS were both nominated for “Best New TV Comedy” at the 2001 UK comedy awards, hosted by Jonathan Ross. Immediately prior to the announcement of the winner in that category, myself and Paul Whitehouse both noticed a ramp being added to the stage at London Weekend Television Studios. When Paul asked a passing crew-member why the ramp had been added, he was told, in all innocence; “Oh, it’s because the producer of THE OFFICE (UK) is in a wheelchair.” See if you can hazard a guess as to which of the two shows Tory MP Ann Widdecombe (RIP) then went on to announce to the live tv audience…
