POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I was really gratified to give my farewell speech to a full chamber in parliament last night.

It was so nice that so many MPs, and people from the electorate came to join my friends and family to watch. The celebration and the support was heartwarming and much appreciated.

I want to thank the many people I’ve met in Brunswick over the years, supporters, critics, members of the Greens and other parties, for trusting me to represent you and engaging with me in the honourable pursuit of politics. by @timreadgreens

Group voting is something most people haven't heard of, but for the over 90% of Victorians who vote above the line in the upper house, it's allowed political parties to control your preference votes through dodgy backroom deals and cash for votes schemes.

Some particularly bad actors have manipulated this system, charging want-to-be-politicians and major parties $55,000 to make micro-parties and arrange preference deals, getting their clients elected on as little as 0.6% of the vote.

You may remember parties on the ballot in Victoria’s last election with names like the ‘Sack Dan Andrews’ Party.

This year, right wing extremists have tried to register the ‘Free Palestine Party’ and the ‘Refugees Are Welcome Here’ Party in an attempt to syphon votes to One Nation. But by abolishing group voting we have closed the loophole they were trying to abuse.

The ‘Free Palestine Party' will still be on the ballot in November as they successfully registered with the VEC, but hopefully with a tiny portion of the vote, and without the power to funnel votes on, instead, voters will decide where their votes go.

It took the Government far too long to make this incredibly important reform, but it's wonderful that it’s finally happened. by @timreadgreens

Tonight we put an end to that. The only person who can decide who your vote elects, is you. by @timreadgreens

We asked what you think about dental care in Victoria, and it's not good.

Over 90% of people who answered our survey said services are too expensive.

Dental care is health care, and everyone should be able to afford the dentist when they need it. by @timreadgreens

Victoria's teachers are the lowest paid in the country while our Premiers are the highest paid in the country.

Ben Carroll will bank more than $530K per year - almost 10 times what an entry level education support worker makes.

Teachers, education support staff and workers across the state are demanding better, and the Greens are standing with them. by @timreadgreens
