I saved the best for last. @teamdaikaiju put on a show at @muddyrootsmusic like nothing I've ever seen in 30 years of concerts. The Kabuki-masked instrumental surf rockers from Kentucky had the crowd take the stage (and their instruments) not once, but twice. And then burned their guitars atop their tour van. They set the cymbals on fire too but I didn't catch that in time. An absolutely bonkers set and something I'm not gonna forget for an awfully long time.

Also getting this all lined up was a nightmare because I didn’t crop stuff before sending to Photoshop 🙃

Marche du Nain Rouge 2026 | 03.22.2026 | Cass Corridor, Detroit

Finding new ways to capture @marchedunainrouge every year is something I always look forward to. It’s a challenge when so many of the floats and costumes are the same so I’m always looking for different angles. Once again, rocked a manual 35mm on my mirrorless and then a manual 135mm on my 18 year-old dslr.

General Strike | 01.30.2026 | Detroit

The golden hour light was too good to just shoot these in black and white. And thankfully it was so much warmer than the previous protest where my camera froze up.

This was the first time I brought two digital bodies to a protest, my 18 year-old D700 with my 60-ish year old manual 135mm and then my Z6ii and 55 year-old manual 35mm f/2, and I love how flexible the setup was. Especially for grabbing candid portraits with the 135mm.

I definitely missed focus on bunch of shots with the 135 because I was manually focusing without any assists, which is heartbreaking, but I love the ones that turned out.

Paradise Day | 05.20.2026 | Downtown | Detroit, MI

I’ve seen @paradisedayband a few times and love the chaos they bring to the stage, whether it’s their own set or when @jezzygazes grabs the mic during a @thearmedixi show. When the band DM’d me about doing some promo shots I leapt at the opportunity.

We spent a few hours getting threatened with transit police on the People Mover, walking the streets downtown and in Greektown, getting glizzies at @lafayetteconeyisland and just stopping wherever looked cool to snap some photos.

The band wanted high contrast, direct flash photos reminiscent of decades passed. I leaned heavily on my 14-24 to get that late ‘90s liner notes look along with my @pocketdispo and couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. Huge shoutout to @meaghan.ohare for her assistance on this shoot and everyone who helped me make selections to deliver when I couldn’t see the forest for the trees anymore.

Does your band need photos? Holla!
