Meadowlark Lemon Stand (V12)

Every climber has their own relationship with grades. While mine has had its ups and downs, and I've generally been drawn to climbs with value and meaning regardless of grade, V12 in particular is something special for me. Having learned to climb in Washington, one of the first outdoor days I ever did was in Index. If you've ever been or climbed there, a particular climb stands out as spectacular, one of the best anywhere: Hagakure. Put up by local legend Johnny G (RIP), this was a climb I had aspired to do someday. Nowhere near strong enough at the time, and with changing times in life (hello parenthood), the stars never aligned for Hagakure (maybe someday?), but the V12 grade still resonated deeply with me.

Reconnecting with climbing after moving to Vegas, I didn't know how strong I'd be able to get back to. The plethora of quality climbs here is astonishing, but if you ask most locals, V9 and V12 really stand out as top of the top. Thus, my primary goal would be to take the time to really connect with these stones, starting at V9. This culminated my first full season here with my proudest send ever: Tilt Shift.

As my time here has evolved, I've had many proud sends, with significant growth in many aspects. I've finally realized that the coveted "megas" in the V12 range could actually be attainable. I'm starting this part of my journey with one of the most beautiful pieces of rock I've ever laid my eyes on. While Meadowlark is not perfect by any means (stand start, manufactured hold, ever eroding soft sandstone), it doesn't get much better to me.

Thanks to everyone who has supported me both far and near. From talking through the climb, coming out to share time and pads, providing feedback and analysis, you know who you are. This very well might be my final "level up" in my own climbing journey, but I couldn't be more psyched. A little over 11 years ago, I first stepped into the climbing gym, this scrawny little nerd. I'm still little, maybe not as scrawny, but damn, never thought I'd get this far. Without a doubt, the hardest thing I've done, and while entry, I feel very at ease breaking into 11. 9 sessions with so many Vegas homies. Thanks everyone who came out this one. Piccole Righe (V10)

Summer training is in full swing and I'm psyched to finally have a 2016 set to play on! This set was always my favorite, and also what I've spent the least amount of time on (never had consistent access to a gym with it!). I'm feeling blessed in life lately, and lucky to have the means to be able to put this in my garage. @roylance1992 you really put in the hard work to craft a beautiful product 💜 If any of the homies ever want to sesh, you know where to find some fresh holds! Sword of Damocles (V9)

So nice to check out Tahoe for the first time! Last day was crazy - It was July 4th and we drove from south to north lake, but didn't realize Donner was blazing hot, so diverted to Castle Peak instead. Finished up the day and drove back south only to realize I lost one of my bags. Drove back again north to try and find it to then find out everyone watches the fireworks from Donner. Hiked up to look for my bag with no luck, watched the fireworks, then went for the flash burn on this with like 50 people around and no pads. taken in Donner Summit - Lake Tahoe by @tinydynos

We are so hyped to have Jason on board as our Forest Service Liaison! There's so much important work happening behind the scenes to maintain access to our Forest Service climbing areas, like on Mt Charleston! Being able to climb nearby when it's 100+ degrees in Vegas is one of the many reasons why Southern Nevada climbing is so amazing. Learn more about Jason in his own words:

My name is Jason and I'm excited to be the Forest Service Liaison for this year! I've been climbing in Vegas since 2013 and moved here with my family permanently in 2020 shortly after my daughter was born. With how much we utilize Red Rock Canyon and the SMNRA, I really wanted to give back some of my own time to help with the community. For this year, I'm stoked to be working with the USFS and the Access Fund as we coordinate a major restoration project for the Mary Jane Falls trail for eventual reopen in 2027. I look forward to meeting folks in our upcoming trail volunteer days in May and June.
