[1/3] A scar on my back that will probably be there forever. The sudden flashbacks I have without any warning. These are just some of the reminders from the war of “love” I fell victim to.
October marks the month of awareness for domestic violence. My mind swung back and forth as I first thought about sharing my story. My biggest question being: Could sharing my experience have an impact on others or even prevent this from happening to someone else? After further research, reading other people’s stories, and endless internal debate, I have decided to go through with sharing this episode of my life.
During this timeframe, I lost complete sense of my identity, my independence, and power to make my own decisions. I spent every waking moment trying to make someone else happy. *But wait, Marsha. You always look(ed) so happy on social media* This is just one of the many harmful effects of social media. No one is going to share the downfalls of a relationship and struggles they go through. Let this be a reminder that the photos we share should not define us, who we are and how we may actually be feeling.
From the early beginnings of our relationship, there had always been constant emotional turmoil boiling beneath the surface: silent treatment, name-calling, and twisting of reality in ways that caused me to feel helpless and blame myself. The first time he threw me to the ground, slamming my head on the bed frame, it didn’t feel real. We had been dating for only two months. How could this possibly be happening? Now it all seems like a blur. I’ve come a long way since that time in my life. I’ve grown and developed as a person. I have something now that I had lost: respect for myself.
I am so grateful for this platform that makes it possible for us to show our support, share our stories, and encourage those around us. To all of the survivors of domestic abuse out there, and to anyone who may be going through this now, my heart goes out to you 💜 .

[3/3] With dental school approaching I decided this was a chance to start afresh - a new chapter, a new life - to free myself. This was a completely new coast to start new memories and clear the slate.
It hasn’t been easy: a day has not gone by where I don’t think about the past incidents. There are days where my mind will spiral into a dark hole when I’m just studying or even in class, remembering the physical pain and playing out all the different scenarios that could have possibly prevented them. I know it will take time to heal from this and that maybe I never fully will. That’s completely okay. People tell me I shouldn’t let these events bring me down, that I should “block out my haters,” and “do me.” You can only do that so much. I go into each new day with a positive mindset. I make sure I’m surrounded by healthy and supportive relationships. Today I know there is nothing I could have done to prevent the incidents. They were not my fault. People also tell me I should consider myself lucky because you hear about the vicious cycle of abuse that goes on for years on end, but abuse is abuse no matter the severity. This doesn’t mean it will magically get easier just knowing these facts.
I want to end this post with a reminder from @breakthecycle. Domestic violence doesn’t mean you constantly have black eyes and bruises everywhere - it’s yelling, manipulation, or even the use of silent treatment. With this month, we should rededicate ourselves to breaking the cycle. It is time to take a stand. Support survivors and speak out against domestic violence.
By sharing my story, I hope to help anyone who is going through or has gone through something similar, show them that there’s a way out, and guide them towards the light at the end of this tunnel. Let this be a call to the bystanders as well. To those of you who know this is happening in a loved one’s life, I urge you to help them live a better life. For anyone who is reading this and might be struggling, you can always contact me.

Highly recommend the spicy tuna and garlic truffle ramen! If you like spice my ramen was great as well. Both broths were very rich and creamy, if I could add spice I’m going for the garlic truffle ramen next time! The noods were also to die forrrrr! Our waiter was also extremely fast, made sure our waters were always filled so that was a plus. The only struggle we had was parking - be ready to get your street parking game face on. Lastly - ATL FRIENDS: THERES A LOCATION IN MIDTOWN!!!! So head on over so you don’t have any fomo.

RIP to @smorgasburgla 😭 jk on hiatus till further notice - but actually missing days like this now. Thankful to have gone to Smorgasburg twice, and the second time on one of the last weekends before we entered our new reality! Lobster roll @broadstreetoysterco oysters @jollyoyster pastrami sandwich (already amazing but we ran into @sauce and it was made 10102848489220x better) @uglydrum carne asada taco @tacos1986la Will cherish this day as it’s throwing it back to simpler times - @ian_manfredo and I were able to randomly find an apartment complex with roof we could climb too and get a dope view of dtla, and then we found the @kobebryant (💜💔💛) murals. R E F L E C T I O N:
This was my first time making sourdough bread. My sourdough starter that I tried to take ... over a span of 8 days ... ended up being a fail - when I would test it to see if it was active it wouldn’t float doing the water test 😭 soooo I had to come up with a back up plan. I made cultured kefir! My next issue was the my kneading. Def need to improve what I do here because my sourdough turned out very dense. It still tasted very good, to the point where even I was eating the crust (for those of you who don’t know I hate bread crust!). If anything, this whole experience taught me A LOT of patience and made me respect bakers even more!

~ keep calm & curry on ~
Part of my home quarantine series is this very vibrant and flavorful beef kofta meatball curry (I mean it better be when 50% of its ingredients are ground spices). It was so good it had us going in on seconds thirds.

Tried out a meyer lemon rosemary focaccia. The only hard part was slicing the lemons paper thin really since @ryanrodef won’t let me use his @shuncutlery knives (pic is just for show 😒) Making my own bread was fun, and now I’ve attempted to make sourdough to pass this quarantine time but so far ... it’s a lot harder than i thought 🤦🏾‍♀️

Here’s one more from just before the lockdown ~pre quarantine~ (they are still doing take out though!) this was my second time here and you definitely can’t come without getting the berry good cloud pancakes! So fluffy 🥺 I find this spot very cute, with exception service that is worth mentioning as well.

Got to go to Din Tai Fung two weeks ago before all this madness started. Had my first soup wontons 🤤 everything here exceeded my expectations for my first real experience with dim sum!
📸: cucumber salad, sweet and sour pork baby back ribs, wood ear mushrooms in vinegar dressing, jasmine tea, shrimp and kurobuta pork shao mai, kurobuta pork wontons with spicy sauce (my favorite!)
