When I took this picture it was just a peace sign. Today it takes on a different meaning.

I learned yesterday that for reasons beyond my control (a restructuring exercise and a new VP at Patrón), yesterday would be my last day at Bacardi. I want to take a moment to reflect and celebrate some of the amazing people I have gotten to work with over the last decade, with my most heartfelt apologies for those I will remember as soon as I hit “post.”

Thanks to the original dream team Stephen, Steph, and Egor. We built an incredible community of friends around us.

Thanks to the Spicy crew, my incomparable leadership squad; and to the Cactus Chickens, the baddest ambassador team in the business. 🌵🐓🥰

Thanks to Matt Sykes for the mentorship and friendship; The Hacienda/Casona teams, You’ve been my home away from home, sing one more for me with Mariachi Moya; Kris Bahamondes-Until we Stampede again 🤠; Sam Willy, let’s locate some 🦪; Nick & Maureen and Offsite team, Josh Gandee and Chris Manis from the HR Department. Icons.

La Gran Familia, your creativity in your work and your dedication to your community inspire me; Roberto Núñez, everything you do is a master class in excellence.

The Beehive—Allie, D-J, Steph, SK, Mel, Sof, MM, Brenda & co. I have learned so much from you about dreaming big and reaching for the impossible and making it real.

Ingeniero Alcaraz and my Tocayo and friend, David Rodriguez. Legends.

Egor Polonskiy—eight years on you are still the funniest, smartest, hardest working person I have ever known. I will always treasure our partnership.

Thank you Lee Applbaum and Greg Cohen for taking a chance on me back in 2015, and for giving me the opportunity that changed my life forever. The old PSC team is the stuff of legend.

I will always be proud of what we’ve accomplished together. I didn’t know we would run out of time so soon, but I also know we didn’t waste a minute of it .

Salud!

For the last 15 or so years (we can’t remember) we have been hosting a shrimp boil on Mardi Gras. The beverage program includes Sazeracs and Hurricanes, naturally. We try to hold some bottled Sazeracs back each year so that we can enjoy comparative tastes year over year.

Today we had to postpone the boil because of the “historic” wind storm that blew through Austin. But that doesn’t mean we still weren’t thirsty. Sipping this Sazerac from 2017 is an incredible treat. Pantry aged for 8 years, I have no idea what we put in it, but it sure aged well. Perfumey and complex and Wild. More bottle-conditioned Sazeracs please. And better record keeping! 🥳👑 taken in Austin, Texas by @tipsytexan

I feel so incredibly fortunate to be able to see this artist live—because he is a generational talent, because he’s from Texas and plays here often, and of course because he is alive, after confronting a battle with cancer last year.

The first time I saw Joshua Ray Walker was at the Real Ale Brewing anniversary party a couple years ago. Since then I have had the opportunity to see him in Glasgow, Nashville, and his native Dallas. It was awesome to finally see him in my home town, at an iconic venue like the Saxon Pub.

1. Last night at the Saxon
2. On stage in Nashville during his Ryman Auditorium debut, opening for Brent Cobb
3. He played a series of shows at Dallas’s historic Kessler theater last year while undergoing treatment
4. Me and @gingerbartender playing cowboy
5. At the Hug & Pint in Glasgow 📷 JRW
6. Live at Real Ale
7. With the band playing Cowboy

New(ish) hat, who dis? A couple months ago while in LA I paid a visit to @marquezclasico with a vintage felt hat that once belonged to my grandfather. Purchased at Merritt, Schaefer, & Brown menswear on Congress Ave in Austin, TX. I think it was made in the 50s-60s, I have had the hat since high school, so it was in desperate need of a glow-up.

Gilbert and team cleaned and reshaped the hat and installed a new liner and sweatband. When I brought the hat in, I gave them a vintage silk tie that was also my grandfather’s, which they incorporated into a new bow with the original grosgrain ribbon which has also been cleaned up. When they were deconstructing the hat they found the original price tag—$20!!

Thank you Marquez team—algo clásico, algo bien! taken in Los Angeles, California by @tipsytexan

Moe Bandy last night at Riley’s Tavern in New Braunfels. While a baby compared to Willie, he still looked and sounded great at 80! 🤠🤠 taken in Riley's Tavern by @tipsytexan

Yesterday we had the occasion to make a very brief (like 4 hr) pit stop in Boston to celebrate the birthday of our dear friend Nick, who is HBA (Historically Birthday Averse) and therefore we could not pass up this extremely rare opportunity. The affair took the form of a picnic on Spectacle Island in Boston Harbor. When our outbound flight was cancelled, our four hour tour became 12, and so we got to visit @cocktail_lens’ amazing Blossom Bar, one of my favorites in the US. Today I made my connection to OAX so this was a heartwarming (and tasty) success 🥳💪🏆 taken in Boston Harbor Mass by @tipsytexan

New knife day! We are excited to welcome two new additions from @breese_forge to the Tipsy knife block. Wyatt Breese forges these beautiful Damascus blades by hand in Dripping Springs, and offers an array of styles and materials each Saturday at the Barton Creek Farmers Market. The handle on the chef is lacewood, the nakiri is cherry, the spacers on both are lapis lazuli and bison bone from a nearby ranch. The pics on his IG do the knives much better justice. Y’all treat yourself to something special and support this talented local artisan. taken in Austin, Texas by @tipsytexan

What a beautiful day in the Texas Hill Country! Observing the eclipse with friends; tasting some special releases of Treaty Oak’s single barrel rums; enjoying the house BBQ and special celebrity guest pimento cheese cameo from @jackallenskitchen; Queso making new friends…it’s basically a perfect day to be a Texan. Big fan. by @tipsytexan
