Extremely thankful to have a @graigkreindler painting & an understanding lovely wife who agreed this would make a fantastic 50th birthday present (1/2 year away).

Of all Graig’s wonderful paintings, the Honus Wagner has always been at the top of my wish list.

⚾️ I can’t stress enough but please try to support all artists, painters, & photographers. Fortunately, we have great ones in the hobby. ⚾️

Maybe Graig will paint Steve Carlton or Steve Jeltz in the future 😉 by @tj.isonline

1984-85 Star 101 (1st year & rookie card).
1984-85 Star 195 USA & 288 ROY.
1985-86 Star 117 (2nd year card)
1986-87 Fleer 57 (great 3rd year card)

I wasn’t a Michael Jordan fan growing up. Watched him play in Philadelphia countless times in-person. The NBA babied him by changing the rules to protect (& make it easier for) him. Wilt Chamberlain is still my personal # 1. Also liked Magic, Bird, Mullin, Olajuwon, Stockton, & especially Barkley more. With all that said, MJ is by far the greatest player I watched. No one is close. Phil Jackson deserves ample credit for helping MJ reach his full potential by showing how to be a team player.

Let’s talk 1980s MJ cards.
Despite not being a MJ fan, I liked his cards. My first packs were 88-89 Fleer & then found some 87-88 packs. So when I started collecting basketball cards in early 1988, pulling MJ cards & stickers were “hits”. Thus my first two MJs were from the 87-88 & 88-89 Fleer sets.

Regardless what you hear, the yrs before Beckett Basketball arrived, the hobby considered the 1984-85 Star 101 MJ’s only rookie card. In my opinion, saying the 1986 Fleer is MJ’s rookie is like stating the 1953 Topps Mantle is a rookie card. The biggest MJ card prob I had as a kid was finding any Star player card let alone MJ. It was nearly impossible to locate one then. We knew they existed (through pics & attending big shows). I also don’t remember seeing a single Star ad or ordering form in magazines unless it was for Star baseball sets. There were a few dealers selling team bags luckily through ads but they were usually small since the focus was on baseball & football cards; Star basketball stock was usually light & sold-out quick.

Want a small Fleer MJ challenge? Try finding a true gem mint 87-88 MJ. It’s far tougher than finding an 86-87 one (87-88 reportedly had 1/2 the print run of 86-87s plus worse centering QC). From what I remember as a kid, this makes sense in terms of availability.

No matter which MJ card you think is his true rookie (it’s the 1984-85 Star 101), I suggest to just enjoy & have fun. Please don’t let online folks’ motives & their opinion of Star Co. influence your joy of collecting. by @tj.isonline

1998 Metal Universe Bobby Hoying . I saw Isaac after the Philly Show at @rayfonio & @cardboardcoach_neal ‘s get-together.

Picked up a few items from Isaac. This fantastic color matching Mag Holder is not bad for $2.79. … & no. This isn’t an advertisement for @the_pennysleever . I’m pumping Bobby Hoying cards. Steve Jeltz cards in these Color Frame Mags are next. by @tj.isonline

You never know what you’ll hear & see on @hobbyhotline every Saturday at 11AM EST on YouTube.

Among the Oct. 10, 2026 topics, @true_rcs & @rayfonio discussed “fine art” in sports memorabilia collecting so I showed a painting.

@rayfonio will be making his @hobbyhotline debut this Saturday at 11AM EST with @true_rcs & me. Rumor has it that Topps asked Ray for his soon-to-be game-used sock for a 1/1 RPA

So it seems a “Greater Phila. Expo Center” camera captured me parking on Saturday morning.

Seriously, the @thephillyshow is the BEST sports show beside the National (which is run by the same folks so it makes sense ) .

It was also great they trusted me with a media pass for interviews & let folks on social media know how very special the event, vendors & attendees are.

Dave of @high_speed_card_chase discusses how much the @thephillyshow means to him & how setting up as a vendor helped his customers & his own Star Michael Jordan collection. He also shows us a 1984-85 Star MJ 101 in a M1NT case. by @tj.isonline

Stan & Casey Loch of Stan’s Vintage Cards talk about their favorite aspects of setting up at the @thephillyshow & how much their customers mean to them. Unfortunately, 30 secs of their video was lost due to a user error by me. Sorry Stan & Casey but your love of the hobby is crystal clear.

Not many former MLBers are nicer than Mr. Steve Jeltz. Steve and I started chatting earlier this year. He & Kristi do so much for the kids in the Lancaster / Carlisle, PA areas w/ baseball clinics & coaching. Nice way to finish off the weekend.

Special thanks to the @darrendaultonfoundation at @sportsandsocial (Philly Live Casino) for yesterday’s wonderful event to raise money.

P.S. It’s been a while since Steve saw his 1989 game-used jersey (set 1) that was originally won at the 1990 Summer @phillies Wives Charity auction. He was nice to sign the jersey (I didn’t wear the pants 😂 ) & a March 31, 1987 Type 1 when he tagged out Barry Bonds at 2B. by @tj.isonline
