Today I have 20 years of sobriety. It took me well over a decade just to cobble those first couple of years together without relapsing. I was the consummate “retread”. I didn’t do it as suggested…. I didn’t have a sponsor this last period of sobriety; I never went to meetings on a regular basis except for brief bursts of self-commitment; I didn’t study the literature often. I was not a very good AA member.
BUT the one good thing I did every single day was to NOT pick up that first drink, or drug.
I try to remain - always - in a state of willingness and gratitude.
And one day at a time that became 20 years of sobriety. Thank you to my friends and family who were part of my journey. ♥️ by @tjevolving
