Shoutout to @alyssaapruett for getting video of this.
-
It was a pleasure to be back with @crowncollegebaseball for an alumni game. Not to mention punching 9 tickets in 3 innings, 5 of them in the first (I think that’s a record). Unfortunately no videos of the absolute TANK I gave up in the first šŸ˜‚

Is this an oversimplified explanation? Yes. Does it still hold true? DEFINITELY.
-
While lifting is one of the safest things you can do, trying to lift more and more as you get closer to season, and even in to season, is recipe for disaster on the field.
-
You need energy and the ability to perform for the main thing: YOUR SPORT. If you’re a power lifter, then lifting is your sport and you should probably spend 100% of your training economy on it.
-
If you’re a pitcher, lifting should be programmed to ENHANCE YOUR PITCHING, not take away from it. Now, don’t hear what I’m not saying. There are times where lifting will take precedence over throwing, but it can’t be all the time.

TrackMan reports are great. But they’re not the absolute truth.

Technology like TrackMan gives us an incredible amount of information, but it reads everything in a vacuum. No matter how many data points it provides, it still can’t give us the entire picture.

-

Coaches, directors, coordinators, etc. have to understand the context behind the data before making decisions.

-

Because if we’re going to ignore the context and make decisions based solely on a handful of numbers… why are we using the technology in the first place?

-

Are coaches perfect? No. We all make mistakes. I sure have.

-

But one thing we cannot do is remove the context in which the data was collected and then treat the data point as the entire story. The game still has to be played.

The Teagan Yotter Story: from not sure about playing college baseball, to D3, to D1.
-
I started working with @realteaganyott in 2023. Very raw, everything was max effort, and rarely found the zone.
-
By the end of the 2023-2024 off-season he was low 80’s, throwing strikes, getting guys out in Live AB’s, and committed to Hamline.
-
Summer of 2025, Teagan is in our Summer Collegiate Pitching Program. Big focus was to hammer the weight room and focus on missing barrels while competing in Minnesota Town Ball. Fall of 2025 through spring season of 2026, Teagan earned a starting role on Hamline’s staff and put up some solid sophomore numbers while sitting 86-89.
-
Summer of 2026, we took the first month trying to develop a changeup and continue to crush the weight room before he started playing for the Minnesota Mud Puppies in the NWL. All of a sudden, he’s hitting 90, then 91, then multiple 92’s. Then he’s getting strikeouts with a changeup. All while training remotely for the summer.
-
Shortly after a few outings in the NWL, he’s committed to St Thomas in St Paul, MN. Just a kid with a dream, a work ethic, and a plan.

11 oz and 9 oz only. 48 throws. Just trying to move forward differently. Figure out what feels best and what gets the ball to where I want it.

Well.. off-season is here. Now that my elbow doesn’t have a bone chip floating around, I get to take advantage of a full off-season.
-
Splitting up into 4 phases. Phase 1 will take me through October. Phase 2 through December. Phase 3 to end of January. Then Phase 4 until season starts.
-
As @coachblanc tells me quite often, my ā€œlinear move sucks,ā€ and I agree. My lower half isn’t stable, and my front foot pops up and spins out at release point. Very hard to maintain the bandwidth of variability there. I was able to compensate to make it work for a while, but it doesn’t work as well against a roster full of college kids. I won’t be chasing what looks the best, but chasing what helps me accomplish the overall task of getting guys out and missing barrels. And honestly, with how bad my front foot pops out, it will probably look much better. šŸ˜‚
-
The plan is to explore the linear move, perturb the linear move, and see if I can find something more functional to compete all while increasing capacity to last more than 2 innings (thanks, broken elbow).
-
1st phase will have more of a focus on the movement side. I’ll be exploring with a purpose, still focusing on whatever task I give myself, but trying different types of moves to accomplish it. The further I move from Phase 1, the more the focus is on the task and environment.
-
Things can change at any point, this is plan that is as fluid as can be. But you won’t get anywhere if you don’t know where you’re going.
-
In the weight room, I’ll be on a ā€œstrength phaseā€ the entire time. I’ve been strong relative to gen pop, but weak when it comes to most high level throwers. Velocity isn’t everything, but it is fun to have… if you can get outs with it.
-
Follow along, or don’t. It’s up to you. Just a 30 year old town ball player with a goal of hitting 90. Eventually…
